Midwife clinic

Today I attend my clinic appointment with midwife, last week they told me at the hospital baby is struggling to put on weight and is 5lb 8 (37 weeks pregnant) because of blood flow not going into umbilical cord. Today, midwife said it is to do with lack of oxgygen but no one is giving me a straight answer. It is to do with raised Doppler. I asked midwife about breast feeding and collecting colostrum and she brushed it off, asked me am I ready for my c-section (seen the look on my face) and remembered I was a completely different woman! Absolutely furious. Has clinic been spoken about collecting colostrum and breast feeding by 37 weeks with anyone else? Thanks x

I got spoken to about colostrum at my 36 week appointment when we went over my birth plan and they gave me syringes and a leaflet at that appt. I'm in Devon so not sure if different elsewhere. You shouldn't start collecting before 36 weeks I don't think but you'd be fine to start now. You can order a kit on amazon and there's good videos online

Thank you, I don’t feel like I’ve had any information. I’ve also asked for a water birth etc and there is nothing in my notes. Feeling really stressed out atm x

I've had minimal information too, at 37 weeks my midwife came to my house so didn't have all the colostrum stuff with her so said she'd send it out. A week later and I don't have it but I bought my own ages ago anyway and have done my own research so just cracking on without her help! I think if you want more then speak to someone else, call the local midwiftilnit where you're registered maybe? X

I was given a colostrum harvesting info pack and syringes at my 34 week appointment and told to start trying from 36 weeks x

With my first it wasn't mentioned at all. I brought it up this time round at my 36 week appt and was given a few syringes. The only reason I asked about it is because I ended up in theatre after birth the first time round and it would have been nice to have a couple for dad to use in this time. For most people it's more of an insurance policy/nice to have so if you aren't able to express/collect before birth it usually isn't an issue nor an indication of whether feeding will be successful or not. How much you can express isn't necessarily an indicator of supply either

Birth plan wise - ask for the pool when you ring when in labour. I don't think they can do much with the request before then!

Sam I feel exactly the same. So far my pregnancy has been fine and midwife apps at clinic have gone great, today I raised the problems and I felt she couldn’t wait to get me out of there. I have just been discharged from hospital as I attended due to lack of movement and stress due to it all d

I’ve just had this with the blood flow and baby not putting on weight (just turned 36+3) I had to go for a Doppler scan last week and blood flow was back to normal the person who scanned me explained all different reasons one being baby could have been lay on the cord causing the flow to slow down. Went for another growth scan yesterday as she was dropping on the chart and her growth has picked up slightly. Started harvesting my colostrum bang on 36 weeks as I have been told due to growth they may induce me so really want to try get baby here as naturally as possible so trying all the labour inducing techniques 😂 xx
