We combi feed and pretty similar story to above, LG was tongue tie and we used the formula bottle to top her up on a night before bed and she has breast at all other feeds. Gives me a huge break and she gets to spend some time with her dad. Breastfed babies tend to not eat for the sake of eating so she might actually be full when you’re offering. Are you replacing a feed or just offering randomly?
@Sophie she’s turning 5 months and i want to combi feed as we planning to go on holiday and im not comfortable just bfeeding her in public plus the place we are going i dont feel right just feeding her anywhere i think. I want to keep bf as long as possible but i want to feed her just when we out and about on holiday i dont want it to be her main feeding if i make sense. I was going to express hut then i realised with the heat and stuff i cant really keep the milk out
@Ashleigh so i tried to replace one feed but she wasnt having it but then sometimes if i give her like a hour or hour and half after feed she will drink it but not always
@Rumy ah understandable. I wonder if it's the bottles/teats you're using or the taste of formula. Could be worth expressing now and getting her used to bottles- might need to shop around to see if there's a brand she prefers. Then once you know she will take a bottle of your milk start introducing formula. But there's no guarantee she'll accept a bottle/formula. Worth thinking about whether the place you're going has facilities for breastfeeding, or whether a large sort of shawl thing to cover baby and your modesty might help as back up options?
@Rumy makes sense! Why don’t you try the newborn ready made formulas? The teats on them aren’t that big and she might get on with them better, plus if it’s for a holiday you don’t have to worry about making them sterile etc as they come with their own teats and are small portions. Most brands do them but we used the aptamil ones with my little girl x
@Sophie if i express she will take the bottle so im dont think its the bottle i may try a different brand of formula. I have one of those covering things you get so i will keep that with me thank you so much x
@Ashleigh thanx i will try that
How old is she? When are you offering the formula? If you don't mind me asking, why the preference to combi feed? (Eg if you'd rather formula feed at night) - no judgment - my LG is combi fed. I only ask as it might affect when it's best to offer and how much you might need to think about it affecting your supply via breast (BF between around 2-4am is key). My experience is combi feeding due to problems with latch and supply so we used to top up small amounts after every feed - she was still hungry so she would just take it! As my supply caught up and she latched better she'd get more via boob and we cut out the bottle except at night. It's now part of our bedtime routine to have a bottle after her bath and she loves it 😅
