Running post section

I was a runner before and during pregnancy. Stopped parkrun around 27 weeks. I booked a space for a local 10k for January before having baby as it sells out on release date. Is running 10k at 11 weeks realistic? Currently 4 weeks pp and feel great. Carrying on with normal life except running and driving

Personally I wouldn’t, it takes a good 12 weeks to heal so you wouldn’t be able to do the training for it in time. I was told no exercise except picking up baby and walking for 12 weeks then only light exercise for another 12 weeks

@Hannah I've literally been told nothing. Havnt even been told not to drive, just know that I can't from talking to others 🙈 I've been going out for long walks already which i presume they would class as light exercise 🤔

I’d personally wait, it’s a lot on the body, even if you feel great. Light exercise is okay but they recommend you slowly increase the intensity of exercise past 12 weeks

@Claire I think walks are fine as long as you aren’t pushing yourself hard doing it, since you were into running during pregnancy your stamina is probably pretty high for that sort of thing anyway ☺️ think running may be pushing it though as you are still healing on the inside and don’t want to do yourself any damage x

I was running again at 8-10 weeks and did my first pp half marathon at 5m. I had an easy recovery though, a non emergency caesarean and was signed off by my obstetrician at 6w.

I had a visit from the health visitor today and she was shocked I was out running errands at 5 weeks post c-section. She kind of told me off saying I shouldn’t be doing much and I was doing too much by walking over a mile with the pushchair (which I have been doing since I got home) I think you need to do what’s best for you and make sure you don’t engage your core too much. Your body will tell you when it’s too much. I’m going to speak to gp and look for an exercise plan to work with my healing. X

My pilates teacher wouldn’t take me back until 20 weeks post section due to all the internal healing and layers of damage on the inside that you cannot see going on. Saying that, If you’re a really seasoned runner and it would be a breeze, maybe it’ll be fine but I would be cautious and take it easy x

@Suzanne I find everyone reacts so different. Spoke to my health visitor yesterday and was telling her how much I'm doing. She thought it was great. She said the fact that I exercised so far in pregnancy may have helped.

I was told not to do any running till about 18 weeks pp, i went to a physiotherapist after being signed off because really they checked nothing so went for a mummy mot which was really helpful with everything

It's really personal circumstances and how you feel tbh, iff you get signed off and feel all okay then go for it, I started running at 6 week pp as thats the time they say you can get back to doing normal things, I'd maybe just see how you go and make the call closer to the time x
