Can stop sterilising at 1yr.

1 year is the general advice but I sterilised them as long as I was still putting formula in them.

@Beth oh i didn’t know this, i was assembling them straight out the steriliser!! good to know for future x

As long as they have formula they will need sterilising. They don’t need to be completely dry, I use a milton cold water steriliser and you just put the bottles back together and they stay sterile for 24 hours ☺️

When you stop using formula. The sterilisation of bottles is to kill off my left over bacteria from the formula over anything else

@Molly You’re supposed to sterilise until no longer using formula as the bacteria in it needs to be killed, it can be really dangerous & very different from germs from crawling on the floor X (please don’t take this the wrong way it’s come from a good place)

@Paige Please look into the dangers of not sterilising bottles after formula has gone in, the bacteria can be dangerous & is different from germs from the floor. Children have died from not sterilising bottles that have had formula in. Once on cows milks its fine but anything with formula must be sterilised xx

When they go onto cows milk at 1 years old

Up to 1 year or when they've stopped formula if you go past a year for formula. They don't have to be dry. My steriliser states as long as you assemble the bottles and use them within 24 hours they stay sterile as the water inside is also sterile.

The bacteria in formula can cause sepsis and meningitis. Even using the hot shot method it doesn’t kill any bacteria that can be found in and around the bottle itself and the teat. It only takes a tiny bit of powder to come into contact with the bottle that the boiling water doesn’t get and your baby is at risk - not worth it. As long as you use formula you should sterilise x

@Yasmin the scary thing is, I know someone who openly admits to NEVER making her babys formula with hot water, she just adds it to cooled boiled water and then says that the midwife advised her its OK! 😳

@Rebecca is that person a ftm? maybe she knows no different? as a ftm i listened to everything the hospital said and my health visitors and i got told a load of lies and misinformation, i got myself confused and so worked up over it, so i ignored them and did what i thought was right. for example my baby is formula fed and i feed her on demand but in the hospital they said i must wait 3 hours between bottles cos if i give her more than 2 bottles in 3 hours ill make her sick. my baby would scream and scream and i wouldn’t feed her cos i was told not to, until my mum said dont be silly feed when she’s hungry! also had the hospital tell me i was feeding her too much when i took her in as her breathing was very heavy and deep and told me to give her like 3 oz at 2 months every 4 hours!!! she was having 6oz at this point. what im trying to say is that maybe she just is misinformed or confused and doesn’t know who to listen to cos everyone says different things x

We stopped at I think nearly 11 months as that when I started weaning onto cows milk
