Feeding baby

My little girl really doesn’t seem interested in eating purée food. She doesn’t open her mouth when I put the spoon near her mouth and when I do get some in her mouth she just spits it out

She’s probably not ready, I’d give it a couple of weeks and try again

@Emma yeah that’s what I’m thinking. She was a month early so that might be part of it

She just isn’t used to it. I don’t think this is a sign they aren’t ready at all. Imagine someone just randomly shoving a spoon in your mouth and you’ve never tried all these different flavours before and all you’re used to is sweet milk. I think perseverance is key, my son was the same until about 10 days in and then he finally got it x

@Elena if she was a month early then she could absolutely not be ready, even if she came on her due date she might not be. Not every baby will be ready as soon as they hit 6 months just as some are ready before then. My girl was also early and wasn’t quite ready as soon as she hit 6 months. Her digestive system in particular likely isn’t ready if she’s in theory only 5 months

@Emma I have a prem baby but he was ready at 4.5 months. I just think personally I would persevere. Everyone can do what they like I was just giving a difference of opinion.

My son did that to begin with but he now opens his mouth for me, maybe try give them a spoon to just hold and chew on so they get used to it? I put some food on one spoon for him and he grabbed it from my hand, then had another one loaded to give him

I’d say persevere don’t pressure, you know your baby best. She might not be ready yet and thats ok. The main source of nutrients and vitamins all come from her milk at this point. Don’t stress it, I have friends with the same age babies as mine who are doing finger foods, textures etc, whilst my little girl the same age in weeks as well only likes and can handle puree’d food! All different ☺️

My little girl did this, was starting to think I was weaning too early, but then all of a sudden after about 5 days she worked out how to swallow the food. Don’t worry too much! She’ll still be getting most of her nutrients from milk, as long as she seems to be enjoying trying the new flavours it’s all good!
