I have not had the glucose tolerance test and they told me I had GD too. You might want to look into the FreeStyle Libre if you are hesitant to finger pick. If you speak to the consultant, and tell them your concerns they might offer you one
https://www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/ there's lots of information on here too
Especially how you eat, and 'pair' macros makes a difference
I am sorry I know it’s overwhelming getting that diagnosis I also had it w my daughter and I cried all day. But it can definitely be control w food and make sure you walk everyday once I figured out what food was spiking my sugar it was so much easier.
Like Dominique said, ask to have the Libre instead. I assume you’re in the US if you’re talking about thanksgiving, but I know they use libres there too. Explain to them how triggering it is for you. The libre lasts 14 days. Good luck xx
Tbh I hate pricking my self, it’s something I hate doing maybe you can talk to insurance and your dr about getting a cgm so you don’t have to prick yourself all the time - since you have a history. I personally try not to stress too much I never take the 3 hours my sugars have always ran high but not pre diabetic which is weird but is what it is, I’ve learned that I can control my diabetes with easy diet changes everything in moderation I still get to enjoy my meals but with less worry - thanksgiving is no exception just adjust your portion sizes and try to get more veggies and proteins in you got this momma!
