I feel like a bad mum

I feel horrible, my LO (8m) fell asleep on a walk and when we got home, I didn't take her hat off for 45m 😭 it was her first nap of the day and she's been overtired for hours so I just forgot coz I was so happy she was asleep and now I'm petrified she's going to be effected by SIDs. I feel awful and like a horrible bad mum 😭😭😭

Nothing wrong with wearing a hat unless they are too hot and sweating...

@Emmo I was always told it got enhance risk of sids so I'm just panicking a bit :( Her head was warm but I don't think it was hot

She woke up fine so don’t worry! They can over heat with a hat on but it would be at the time and not afterwards You aren’t a bad mum at all! I’ve done it with my baby too because I didn’t want her to wake her that soon. Your baby is fine ❤️

I mean she woke up, so why would you worry about sids at that point?

You don’t need to feel bad or worry, if she’s awake and you’ve taken her hat off then she’s fine 😊 it won’t affect her later on, only in that current sleep session x

Don’t worry ! She woke up she’s fine not a big deal x

It would only enhance the risk while they are wearing it, not ongoing once it is off.

It can only affect that one sleep scenario so do not worry it cannot increase the risk of sids in the future!❤️ everyone makes mistakes just have to do our best to avoid things like this happening again xxx

Thank you all ❤️

Please, do not freak out about SIDS. For whatever reason, the fearmongering in the UK is insane. Yes, it might happen. But according to every doctor/midwife/HV we've spoken to, they make it seem like everything we do will kill our baby. This is not normal and it's not like this anywhere else. Yes, I am totally for educating people about it. But I don't like being scared of literally everything. Hats: dangerous. Too many clothes: dangerous. Too few clothes: dangerous. Teddy bears: dangerous. Blankets: dangerous. Baby nests: dangerous. Baby sleeping in any position other than on their backs for any amount of time or reason: dangerous. It's a bit too much for me... You should be able to enjoy being a parent not having to be scared that literally anything you do will kill your baby! Educating: good Scaring the living hell out of people: big no-no

@Mantha AMEN!

@Mantha hear hear, I’m so sick of all this scaremongering

I feel you might have misunderstood SIDS. It's a term used to describe deaths that can occur in young children while sleeping. Hats would be cos of overheating or the hat slipping over their face. It won't have done any permanent harm n clearly baby wasn't too hot n the hat didn't slip so please don't worry x

@Mantha this! Not even just sids, but bloody everything! NHS "guidelines" are abit ridiculous sometimes

@Rebecca no other country requires bottles be sterilised after every use! The NHS is so over the top.

@Emmo there's ALOT scare mongering around formula feeding and being way OTT on the bottles, it's mad! Thankfully on my 3rd now so I just my common sense for most things! My baby is 6 months, so I don't always sterilise her bottles, just thoroughly clean and rinse them!

@Rebecca , @Emmo That! Ridiculous! My sister lives in Germany, my niece is 18 months now and they were told, from the start, that there was no need to sterilise at all! The pediatrician was like "Why on earth are you doing that?" when they went for the 8 week check-up and told him they were sterilising them. He said that's not necessary anymore in 2024. Also, they were making the formula in 40 degrees water. Easier, faster, no screaming child. I think that in order to cover their own asses and not take any responsibility for anything, the NHS are just causing more issues and inconveniences for the parents.
