Does your toddler really eat “whatever everyone else is eating”?

I see this often and I really am trying, but it’s been so unsuccessful. What percentage of what you eat for meals does your kid eat as a sustainable meal? Like, can you just plate what you eat for your kid?

My son has an allergy so we've adjusted a lot of our dinners to either not contain it or he has some component of what we're eating

Hahaha absolutely not. But also, yes. I’ve just adjusted my cooking to things that I know they’ll eat, or at least try.

My son use to eat what we would eat. He keeps getting pickier. I try to at least put what we’re eating on his plate so he can try it. Tonight he ate all his “safe” foods before even attempting to try the new food. He seemed to like it okay but I don’t think he’d eat it if it was the only thing on the plate.

What keeps me sane and feeling okay is that most likely this is a phase. My brother was the pickiest person I knew but by high school he had finally started branching out and now at 29 he is vegetarian haha. He is way more adventurous with food than I am. I would have never guessed that growing up.

Hahahahahahaha. I mean, we put what we eat on his plate but he usually doesn't eat it ...

I said 50% because it really depends. I make one dinner, but try to include options he is more likely to consume. Sometimes he surprises me, other times he complains. Ex: I make spaghetti with meat sauce, keep the ingredients separate and let him pick what he wants. And there's always "sprinkle cheese" Last night we had American style tacos and he actually ate one...a miracle. He usually only eats the cheese, maybe a bite of meat, and sour cream 🤷. Some times it's just the tortilla. One thing he's been really into lately is spooning out his own. He loves to scoop and it lets him be in control. And i usually ask him to do mine too. Touching leads to eating!

He eats mostly what we eat but there's a few odd foods he doesn't like. One is pasta. So if I make pasta he gets something else. He also usually doesn't like potatoes unless they're french fries 😅
