Hysteroscopy

I had to have a hysteroscopy to prepare for an IVF cycle. They told me to take 2 ibuprofen an hour before and I did. It was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I felt a sharp stabbing pain. I yelled out in pain several times that it hurt and they proceeded with the procedure. I told the manager about it and she said about 15% of women report pain like this. I asked her why they don’t give pain medication and she said it’s the doctor’s decision. She asked me if the pain lasted longer than a day and I told her no but my pain in that moment matters. She continued to minimize my pain as if it’s a typical day. How is this legal in America!! No one is going to get addicted to pain meds for a one time use during a painful procedure!

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I do think there needs to be some other solution found for these situations. It is so wild how different people’s experiences with those things are. I also had a hysteroscopy in preparation for an IVF embryo transfer. I forgot to take the ibuprofen, but only felt a little pinching when they dilated my cervix. I work in an OB/GYN office and I have seen women have their cervix numbed and it looked much more painful than my whole hysteroscopy (the shot they give to numb the cervix), which I think is why it is difficult to know when it is helpful for women to have that additional step and when it would cause more pain. I don’t say any of this to minimize your experience, but to maybe help understand how it is a straightforward decision for the doctors. However, the way the manager responded was completely unacceptable. Your experience should not have been dismissed like that ❤️

Probably because womens healthcare is undervalued and women’s pain is ignored

WHATTTTT. When I had one, they put me under. Given, I was also getting the laparoscopy with it, but still. I have friends who just had the hystero and still went under And I’m in the US 😅

@Anna they should give a hydrocodon in advance or something. There is absolutely no excuse for what I went through. This happens all the time and they know better. It’s evil.
