Anxiety

Hi! So my son is 10 in Jan and he's got his first school trip to London tomorrow. I am so anxious about it! I don't want him to get lost, get separated etc. Sitting here thinking I'm going to get a phone call he's lost or something. How on earth do you girls deal with this? It doesn't help that when he was 4 we went to a big park and my friend took him to play and let him come back on his own and he got lost. I have never felt fear like it! Funnily enough I haven't spoken to said friend since, but the anxiety of people outside family looking after him, or him in big crowds, is massive. I won't stop him going, just need to calm myself down and get it off my chest 😂

If he’s going with the school they have a duty of care to your son. I totally get you being anxious because London can be so busy. I often volunteer on school trips, they are usually looked after in small groups. Do the register several times. Your son isn’t 4 now he can recognise his safe adults and know not to stray from the group. Have a chat with him about how to keep safe. My son is just a few months younger and has done over night stays on school trips, they are trained to keep children safe.

@Emma thank you! I'm sure they will be fine, and I know it was 5 years ago 😂, but I'm such a worrier. It's helped knowing you've been on them. Ryan is...distracted easily by his friends, and still remembers his fear from when he was on his own so needs security in big crowds. His school haven't done any trips except a 10 minute bus ride away for his year so far. I just need someone to talk me out of my anxious moment as I can't wait to hear all about it when he gets back! So thank you!!! xxx
