Placenta previA

At 28 weeks, my placenta privea hasn’t changed at all. The MfM told me I should mentally prepare for a c section and that they will likely plan it between weeks 36 and 37. Can other mums in similar situations share their stories? Can I push to at least get to week 37 before the c-section? Just to be clear, I won’t have any concerns about having a c-section myself - happy healthy baby is my priority. But week 36 feels too early? Am I overthinking this?

My best friend had this and her placenta started causing bleeding nearer the end of the pregnancy so she did deliver before the 37. She's now 3 months old and doing fabulous. They boosted baby's lungs with some steroid injections to prepare her for coming early. You could still make it to the 37 weeks but best to prepare either way! You'll be absolutely fine xx

I had this and didn’t know about it until my c section was done. I didn’t understand the dangers of it until they explained so I was so happy to not of had my waters break on their own due to it. I had a whole host of different things on the run up that made me make the decision for the c section.

Hi! I’ve got complete previa and am a few weeks ahead of you - I’m 34+6 and my scheduled c section is for 37 weeks. My doctor suggested that the typical range is 36-37.5 weeks, so their practice is scheduling at 37+0 weeks. We scheduled my date after my 32 week appointment. I haven’t had any bleeding or labor signs, so I’m feeling good about the 37 week date. If they schedule at 36 weeks, I would ask them about whether they would do antenatal steroids? 36 weeks isn’t too early, but the steroids can support lung development, something you don’t need to worry about at 37 weeks.

I had this and my little girl was born at 37+3 via planned section which was a really positive experience. It was just too risky in case I went into labour spontaneously. She was only 5lb 10oz and had some initial trouble feeding as she was little (and some “grunting” for a couple of days as she was born via section) but we both soon got the hang of breast feeding and she’s a perfectly happy 22 month old now ☺️

I had placenta previa too and they were pushing for 36 weeks, but I pushed to just after 37 weeks as we were renovating and the house wasn’t quite finished yet! Also on another note, if you have private medical insurance, they will cover a medical need for a c section and you can go private!
