Sad about weaning?

This probably sounds stupid but is anyone getting really sad about weaning? My baby is 5.5 months in a few days, and he’s showing all the signs of readiness. Good head control, sitting well supported, no tongue thrust reflex, etc. I don’t think weaning him 2 weeks early will cause him harm, his digestive system isn’t going to go through a magical change the day he turns 6 months. I know it’ll be okay. But I put him in a high chair today and it just made me so sad to see him sitting so well. I nearly cried 😂 He’s breastfed and honestly I think it’s because for nearly 6 months I’ve been growing him and giving him nutrients. My milk is the reason he’s so chunky. I like that. And eating real food just makes me realise how quickly he’s growing and how soon he won’t be a baby anymore, he’ll be a toddler. Can someone please give me some reassurance or tell me I’m not alone? 😂

I might be wrong but I was told by my midwife that babies only get nutrients from breastmilk for the first year and food is only for exploration?

@Sengum yeah, that’s true! I know it’s so irrational to be sad over this when I know logically it isn’t even true 😂 I know food is for fun before 1, I just keep getting so sad over it

You're weaning him from milk at 6months?

@Lauren no, of course not. He’ll be breastfed until he’s 2 years old. I’m just sad because until now he’s exclusively drank breast milk and it’s all he knows. I know he’ll need milk until he’s at least a year old.

It's completely valid, with my first baby it hit hard to wean/ lose my production to pregnancy, mom hood is hard af but super fun and worth it

Oh okay, 😅 the word weaning got me lol; it's usually used to say you're switching But i feel you, my son ATTACKS us whenever we had food or water like frantically trying to snatch stuff from us and smacking 😆 and I'm starting solids slow but I get a lil heartbreak when i see him adjusting instantly and being greedy lol the first time i was like it's he doing to reject the boob now? Lol

@Lauren that’s one thing I’m not looking forward to, his little hands trying to snatch my food off me 😂
