My little girl is 9 weeks today and hers done about 4 weeks ago.. before she struggled to latch and stay latched on my breast, bottle and dummy. Had reflux and wind and was very miserable and upset. We went private too, the procedure was over in seconds. She was more upset with having fingers in her mouth. Didn’t notice any blood as straight on breast for a feed. A good week or so and a massive difference not as uncomfortable. Latch much better and not feeding for as long as now getting a good supply. Please don’t worry we get more upset than the baby does x
@Kat oh thankyou for this! I will take a swaddle with me. Were you told to swaddle him?
@Naomi thankyou for leaving this comment! This is what I needed to hear. He struggles to latch on, we have good days and bad days, I have no choice but to give him formula too otherwise he wouldn't be getting much from me but I feel like once his tongue tie is cut he will latch on even better! Had an appointment last week and the last didn't do it for him because "he's putting weight on" this is via NHS.
yes the midwife that came to our house swaddled him so he doesn’t move while doing the cut. Not sure how this will be done in the hospital but I guess taking the swaddle won’t harm:)
Fast forward a week later I had put a complaint in about how I wanted him to have the procedure and they didn't do it for him and they've given me another appointment so quick!
Check out the tonguetiespecialist on Instagram. We went to her for the procedure she gives out so much advice which is reassuring. Tongue tie should be released on nhs regardless of feeding and putting weight on as it effects so much more x
Tongue tie release completely changed life for our little one! We weren't taken seriously so went private and found out he had less than 50% function and couldn't even reach the roof of his mouth. The snip literally took 5 seconds, he cried and there was some blood for a minute or two but he fed and had a cuddle and was absolutely fine. There was a visible marks in his mouth for a while, it becomes red and then white and then heals, it was bigger than I expected but he wasn't bothered by it one bit. He did have to essentially relearn how to latch and feed and for a day or two I felt like I'd completely made the wrong decision and it was hard, but now I would never look back. He is a much much happier boy. He is feeding better and putting weight on better, happier and less gassy, less tense and more comfortable. It has honestly made the world of difference. Prepare yourself for one big cry and then it's over!
@Naomi yes this is what I think too! But the lady u had the appointment with said it will not effect anything at all! I was so disheartened afterwards. She said it won't effect his speech, it won't effect his eating or anything. She was using massive scare tactics on me, hence why I complained.
@Amy I just cannot say how happy I am that all you ladies have left these comments for me to read! I hope it completely changes life for my little boy too, hope it gets better with latching and feeding. I dont think I was taken seriously either, there was a support worker in the appointment too and she said to me " when is your son ever going to need to take his tongue out of his mouth" I really didn't understand why she said that me. Ofcourse my poor little boy needs to get his tongue out of his mouth 🤦🏻♀️
Sorry to jump in but those who have gone private. Can you please share how much it roughly cost?
@PG I saw a private specialise. It was £250 x
@PG I've spoken to quite a few mums and they have all said over £200
I had my little girl’s tongue tie done privately and they swaddled her in a towel. It was just so she couldn’t move her arms whilst she was having it snipped. I was really apprehensive but I’m so glad we had it done and it’s over in seconds. I honestly didn’t realise how much it impacted until we went to the appointment. When it was first picked up we were told ‘it’s not that bad as it’s really far back’. At an appointment with the local feeding team they told me ‘it’s far back and therefore they might not do it on the NHS’. We went private and were told she had less than 25% use of her tongue. As others have said there will be good feeds and bad feeds but honestly after having this done it felt like my light at the end of the tunnel.
Ladies we did it!!! Got his tongue tie snipped today! I'm sooo happy. Was so gutted last week when I got sent home and they didn't do it.
My LO had last month. The actual procedure took few seconds. We decided for private so it was at home. Not much blood and he was fine after :) Still not much improvement with feeding but we are getting there! I have been told it is not painful as there is no nerve, he was crying a bit during but mainly because he was swaddled for the procedure and he hates it!
