Feeding

I need advice please!! My daughter’s 6 days old, is she overfeeding?? I’m struggling with her to break wind, she’s always rooting for more hence the 4oz feedings. The midwife seen her rooting yesterday after just feeding 3oz and suggested giving an extra 1oz and if she’s sick it’s too much. She was sick both times. I’m at a loss 😢 I’m giving infacol before feedings and I’ve just started with colief in her bottles today. I need some advice 😢 I honestly feel like I’m failing my daughter already.. I don’t remember what it was like with my son at this age and it was only just over 2 years ago😫

My babe liked to nurse 24/7 because he had bad reflux. are you using breastmilk or formula?

My sister has the same with her little one. Midwife just said as long as she’s keeping most of the milk down then you’re not over feeding. If she’s bringing up say the whole bottle or extra milk then she didn’t want it. They will only bring up what they don’t want. A tip for bringing up wing. Have your baby on your knee with one under the chin and ring finger and pinky under the arm. Use your other hand to straighten her back from the bottom of her back. This has helped my sister a lot as hers never wanted to give wind especially the second lot. I hope this helps but you are doing great, don’t beat yourself up 💕

@Kaliyah she’s on formula

@Jamie-Lee so far since this post she hasn’t been so bad with bringing up milk but she’s still taking the 3-4oz and sometimes after the 4 acts like she’s wanting more but surely more than that is too much for a baby that’s not even 2 weeks old yet😫 We’ve tried alll the positions for burping and they’re 50/50 wether they work or not and if she does burp she still seems tense and uncomfortable 😢

@Lauryn king she could have reflux. babies with GERD aka reflux will eat and eat and eat until they throw up because eating seems to ease the reflux. that or she’s got some gas. i’m glad she seems to be doing better, just keep note of how she’s acting before and after eating to tell her pediatrician.

@Kaliyah she is stubborn with her wind so I’m hoping it’s just that. Sometimes after she has burped though she still seems tense, squirmy and grunts a lot 😢

@Lauryn king my niece is gonna be 2 months old in a few days and she is taking 5-6oz. She’s been on 5oz for a while now but they figure out how much they can take. I breastfed mine till around 7/8 months when he stopped so I can’t say much on that but his normal feed was around 10-15mins. All I can say is if she’s taking it and keeping the majority of it down then that’s good. Some babies are stubborn when giving wind, have you tried gripe water. I’m not sure on the age for that

She’s been sick a couple of times when she’s wanting more😫 unfortunately have just under 2 more weeks before I can give gripe water as it’s not suitable for under 1 month olds
