Induction after water has broken but no contractions

Hi anyone experience after their waters have broken but still feel no contractions at all. The midwives told me I need to have an induction in 24h if it does not happen naturally? Anyone experience with that? Thanks! 🙏

My waters broke and contractions started 12 hours later, i was 5cm dilated by the 24 hour mark so they didn’t need to induce.

My waters broke with my first and I never went into labour until I was put on a drip as the pessary didn’t work either.

My waters broke and I never went into labour with my first. Was induced with a drip as already dilated ( I think 3 cm’s) I can’t remember exact times but it was about 7 1/2 hours between drip starting and baby arriving. I then had to go on another drip for 4 hours after birth ( i cannot remember what that was though - thanks baby brain) Hope it all goes well for you

Yes! Waters broke 3pm on the Saturday and I gave birth at 11:20 on the Tuesday. I refused induction as I did not feel unwell in myself and did not believe the risk of infection (based on the stats) was a reason to be induced within 24hrs. The midwives were happy for me to wait 24hrs and I decided again to keep waiting on the basis I have had a quick spontaneous labour before. My contractions began at 1am on the Tuesday and when I went to hospital I was 4cm. I laboured on gas and air with no intervention although the consultant did come in and wanted to put me on the drip to speed things up as they wanted birth before 96hrs. I refused and baby arrived at 68hrs after waters broke.

The crux is, you don’t HAVE to be induced. The policies like you to be induced so they can avoid all risk however be guided by your body, if you want to wait, then wait and go with the monitoring. I spent a lot of time whilst waiting googling etc and active management (I.e waiting) is not an issue and majority of ladies will give birth within 24hrs. Almost all will have given birth by 96hrs. It used to be common place to wait 3 days. Just don’t feel pressured!! Hope this helps, feel free to message if you want to. Though I’m sure things will move along for you soon 🥰

My friend had this experience. Mild contractions, water broke and then the contractions really eased so they said they’d wanna induce within 24hrs as there is a risk of infection once waters have broken. She ended up having to have just the induction gel and as soon as they applied it her contractions went crazy and baby was born shortly after! No need for the drip etc. :)
