I was on the implant for 7 years. When I was on the implant the first time I had a very long period the first couple cycles. But after that I had none at all. Second time after having it removed and replaced I just had no periods and just had irregular periods within the final year of having it before having it removed.
The implant is the most effective form of contraception, it’s more effective than being sterilised so the “stories” you are hearing are either stupidly rare or more commonly, these people were pregnant prior to having it fitted and didn’t know. 1/3 of women with an implant have no periods, 1/3 have withdrawal bleeds each month and the other 1/3 have problematic bleeding. What you are describing is totally normal but if you want regular bleeds, the only contraception that you will still have a period on is the copper coil. Other methods (such as combined pill, ring and patch) you would have a regular withdrawal bleeds but these are NOT periods. Contraception works in different ways but the majority of them stop the uterine lining building up (so there is none to shed and have a period) and/or prevent ovulation (so there is no trigger to have a bleed). The only method that doesn’t do either of these things is the copper coil, which acts as a spermicide but doesn’t give off hormones.
When I was on the implant for 2.5 years I had absolutely no periods. Some women just don’t have a period anymore while on it and some have regular or irregular periods x
