Baby Movements?

Hey there! I’m almost 16 weeks and since 13 I’ve been feeling this pinching/cramping feeling right in the middle of my uterus almost like I’m being scratched with a fingernail on the inside sometimes. It honestly hurts and I’m not sure if it’s just cramps or if that’s movement and my Autism is interpreting it oddly (I have a hard with interoception 😅) if it’s movement I’d like to know so I can track it and connect with it but with this being the first pregnancy that has stuck around this far I’m definitely confused lol

As far as I know, although it isn’t impossible, 16 weeks is a little early to be feeling movements anyway (especially if you think they’ve been happening since 13). If you are saying it feels like a pinch/cramp, it is most likely cramping as you get soooo many of them throughout pregnancy and this is how i’d describe mine. Also from researching, it is apparently impossible to feel baby if they scratch you inside the womb, as the uterine walls are so strong and thick and babies nails (especially at this gestation) are paper thin? although i can’t vouch for that as I just googled. Kicks and baby movements, atleast for me and people i’ve spoken to, feel like little bubbles and flutters at first and then become very obvious kicks, not scratchy or painful as such unless they kick a rib!😭😂 i’m sure you will recognise when it is a kick/movement but due to the autism im not 100% sure if they’ll feel the same but i do very much doubt that they’d hurt you. it is a weird but wonderful feeling❤️

Movements feel like a butterfly

@Ellie-May I’ve definitely thought it was early to be feeling movement! They’ve just felt so different from other cramps I’ve had that I keep getting in my head about it 😅 I’ve really hoped it’s not honestly because I was hoping the feeling would be more pleasant haha it’s not the worst feeling in the world but it’ll definitely catch me off guard

@Lee Honestly, movements and kicks are crazy weird but amazing! I’m currently waiting(long time waiting😭) for an ADHD/Autism assessment as I believe i’m some sort of nuerodivergent and I still love the feelings most the time. At night time they do get overstimulating if i’m struggling to sleep and I do struggle with regulating my emotions after that - but they have never hurt me or made me extremely uncomfortable when not affecting me settling/sleeping. i’m sure you’ll love it xx

When you say middle of your uterus, where exactly on your belly are you feeling this? As this may help with trying to work out what it actually is. At 13 weeks pregnant, the top of your uterus is barely out of your pelvis. At 16 weeks pregnant, the top of your uterus is only approximately halfway between your pelvis and belly button. At this stage is rare to feel more than flutters. This differs with second, third, etc pregnancies as your body has muscle memory and things can happen much earlier. It’s possibly cramps or even your organs and internals moving slightly to accommodate your growing uterus.

@Donna Woods I’d say firmly in the middle of my uterus, it’s shifted slightly the past few weeks but not in my belly, more where I typically felt period cramps. After 2 IUD insertions, a malpositioned one and multiple surgeries I have a pretty good awareness between uterus and bowels unfortunately. It doesn’t feel like gas pains or anything. It really feels like a sharp fingernail poking through/scratching the inside even though I know it’s definitely not the babies fingernails. Maybe it’s my uterus stretching to accommodate baby?? I’ve also felt round ligament pains on either side before so I don’t think it’s that 🤔

Early baby movements kinda feel like being tickled but on the inside. Or like @Ella said, butterflies. Cramping could just be from your expanding uterus and the muscles and stuff stretching out

Your ligaments are stretching/ uterus is growing. Totally normal momma

I’ve felt only “flutters” twice now around 15 weeks.. now 16 weeks, 2d. Haven’t felt them since. But yeah 16 weeks on u may feel baby, mostly likely much later 🥰

I started feeling my daughter at 16 weeks so it’s possible! It felt like REALLY faint kicks (not butterflies). But what you’re describing is probably just cramps or maybe lighting crotch
