Baby not interested in food or water

How’s weaning been for everyone that has just started? We’ve started three days ago with my six month year old, and she’s not interested in the puree food we’ve given her. So far I’ve given her Ella kitchen pouches. We started with sweet potato then apple, and she hardly had any of them. I’ve also tried to give her sips of water from her tommie tipee Sipee cup, but she just spits out the water Any advice on what to do? Or just be patient with it?

Mine kept spitting the water out too, we use same cup as you, but it is just perseverance with it as its new, if id just done the water & its freezing cold she wont take it, if i do that 1st then her lunch, by time shes drinking then its taken the chill off it. As for food, i presume you are giving it before her milk feed? Have you tried rusks? Both of mine started there, you can make it as thick as you like too but she will definitely want her water with that so good one to get her drinking. All i can say is do it when shes hungry but dont worry too much shes just adapting, before you know it she will be pinching off your plate. X

I went to a course recently… 1) Just because your baby does not like it initially, it does not mean they won’t. Apparently you have to offer each food 10 times before they accept it 2) Start with green veg for the first 1-2 weeks. This way they will learn to love broccoli as much as sweet stuff later. Good way to increase chances of your child not being a fussy eater going into toddlerhood on 3) limit commercially made food and ideally offer home made. 4) be patient. Hope it soon becomes an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Dont give packets full of sugar .start savoury 1st ..mashed carrot veg..

Have you tried giving finger food rather than puree? With my first baby I tried both and he didn’t like puree at all but was interested in the finger food so we did baby led weaning instead. Completely understand if you’re not comfortable with it but might be worth a try. Don’t stress if they’re not eating much in general though, it just tastes for now x

I would wait for some time and start again. Is she properly sitting and showing interest in your food?

Remember it’s a completely new experience for your baby and solids taste completely different to the milk they’re used to. As said above, it can take 10-20 times for them to accept a new food so just keep trying but don’t force it. It will be little amounts in the beginning but as they get used to solids they will gradually eat more. I’d also suggest trying finger foods, as your little one is 6 months you can go straight to baby led weaning.
