Maternity pay/leave

So this may be a silly question but i just want to make sure i get my facts right - lets say I get my usual pay at the end of the month like on the 30th of every month and if i start maternity leave before the day i get paid, would my employer still pay me my salary for that month regardless if i start leave or not or i wouldn’t get this pay and thats when SMP starts? It would depend on the day your leave starts, and the cut off date for your pay run. You would get your normal pay till the date your leave starts, then whatever your maternity pay is (some have enhanced). So say it changes mid month, and cut off is on pay day, you’d get half and half

You’ll still get paid normally if your pay starts and ends before the 30th. Pay date and your salary cycle can be different, that’s something you’ll need to check on your pay slip. It should state clearly the start and end date of your salary cycle on your pay slip, at least mine are. You can always ask your HR people, they should be able to provide with all the info you need. You are entitled to all of these info so don’t feel scared about asking them.

You get 6 weeks full pay anyway, so it wouldn’t make much difference at the start.

@Sarah unless you receive enhanced pay from your company, SMP is actually only 90% for the first six weeks x

@Rochelle good point! I’ve never been eligible for it before so knew it was something like that 😂.
