Iron tablets

Anyone else been told they need to take iron tablets throughout their pregnancy? I’m struggling with nausea and have read they can make it worse 😩 wondering how you’ve found them if you’re taking them?

I don't have them so I couldn't tell you about the nausea. All I know is that if you take iron and calcium (which is in most prenatal) it doesn't absorb. You need to take iron 1-2hr after calcium for it to be effective Also to avoid excess nausea try taking on a full stomach. That's what I do with zinc

Iron during pregnancy is very important to be taking since day 1. Since your baby starts taking so much of it from you, your levels can drop quick leaving you with no reserves by the third trimester and then because you're anemic at that point you will have to get an iron infusion. I personally never felt nauseous with the pills. It's more determining which ones would make you less constipated. If you can get feramax where you are that is the one I take and it actually makes your stools soft instead of adding to constipation. And it has more natural ingredients.

I have iron in my pregnancy supplement but I’m too low so have been prescribed ferrous sulphate to take on an empty stomach with orange juice

I had to stop taking my iron supplements on an empty stomach because it was making me violently sick especially after my morning coffee. I would suggest taking with orange juice or taking it a couple of hours after breakfast, that’s what what I do to stop the nausea and it works for me

I took exactly one iron tablet and it was absolutely horrible. It felt like nausea and a ruptured ovarian cyst at the same time. Maybe I would’ve been okay with the second one but I was for sure not gonna risk it so they gave me iron straight to my bloodstream instead. But I’ve heard lots of people are completely fine with it so I guess you won’t kno til you try 😅

Oh gosh. Ok, I’m gonna try tomorrow morning with orange juice so will see how I get on 🫣
