15 hours free for 2yo

We have just been informed by HMRC that we no longer qualify for 15 hours free childcare as I don’t earn enough. I work part time as a cleaner and husband works full time. He earns to much for us to earn universal credit. But we struggle each month paying bills and putting food and essentials on the table. My little girl is 2 and goes nursery 2 day a week and now paying for nursery is basically my paycheck each month. I want her to go to nursery as she absolutely loves it and I need to work for my own mental health right now. But it just seems financially better for me to give up work. Is there anything we can do to appeal this. It seems so unfair that we work so hard and get nothing in return to give us a little help.

How many hours do you work? I believe you need to work 16 hours to get the free hours

It’s 16 hours or the equivalent of. So if you earn more than minimum wage, you can work fewer hours.

how much are you earning a week cause i think that's what they base it off and also if you are getting certain benefits and working 16 hours a week

@Kelly we don’t claim anything. Tbh I don’t know what we could even claim

@Kelly I work three days a week and paid by the hour but as I cleaner I get either cancellation or changes to times. So one week I could work over 16 then the next week 10

Are you self employed? They do allow you to average it out over 3 months, so you need to earn £2,380 before tax if you’re aged 21 or over (equivalent to £183 per week) in 3 months

The term after she turns 3 she’ll be entitled to 15 hours free anyway. That’s for everyone, working or not

Apply for the ‘Together for 2s’ funding, you may be over the threshold but worth a shot
