Food struggle

Little one won't eat bread, won't touch meat other than a chicken nugget if the stars align, is picky on and off with potatoes so no more mash, no chips etc. Also won't entertain eggs, any kind of pasta sauce or fish of any kind. I'm really struggling to find things to feed her she is rejecting absolutely everything and i'm exhausted. I'm not sure if it is just a phase or how long this will last but i'm getting worried about her nutrition at this point and I've tried everything for it to be pushed away or tears at every meal time. Any advice?

We find our LO eats better with someone else. Especially if eating the same thing. Do you eat with her? Or does she do better eating with others at nursery?

@Cal nursery staff tell me she is refusing most things that they offer, she basically gets through the day on her breakfast and then any snacks they can get in heršŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø she has also started demanding 'something else' as nursery gives her an alternative to the meals if it isn't something she will eat We eat with her at the table nine times out of ten and she'll push the plate away pretty much right away and gets upset at us for still eating ours, i'm not really sure how to winšŸ˜“

So my little boy is the same with eating when me and my partner eat with him He messes around and hardly eats anything so now I put him in his high chair infront of a programme he likes to watch and leave the room I spoke with the health visitor about it and she said that’s absolutely fine it distracts them to eat the food now lunch and tea times are so stress free now! Also my little boy is obsessed with ice pops at the moment due to teething so I keep popping my head in (make sure they can’t see you) and when he says he’s finished I looked to see what he’s eaten if I don’t think it’s a enough I’ll say you need to eat some more and you can have a ice pop and it honestly works a treat there getting older now so just try to play them back at their own gamešŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚xx

@Georgia it’s odd that the health visitor was advising it as the NHS website says not to offer foods as a reward as it gives it a perceived higher value.

@Cal if it works it works I don’t no why people follow these sites because not every child is the same!

@Cal and as I kid I was always given afters doesn’t always mean it’s a treat sometimes it was fruit yogurt ect

@Georgia no they’re totally not. You need to do what’s right for you. Just thought they’d need to advising the NHS guidance given that’s who pays them.

My LO is a terribly fussy eater and always has been, I’ve followed every piece of advice under the sun (eating together, serving ā€œdessertsā€ like yoghurt and food together at the same time, serving food they will eat as well as food that’s new together, etc), nothing has worked. I’ve been at it for a year now and her palette is just shrinking. We are down to oats, plain pasta, some fruits, yoghurt and sometimes a ham sandwich if we’re lucky. I’m at my wits end. I might even try the TV trick to see if it works as it’s causing me such stress!

@Teri honestly Teri I was the same when it come to dinner times and I would literally dread lunch and tea time! Breakfast he’s always been ok with because he just sits on the sofa munching away but it was the best thing I Done just put on her fav show and leave the room but of course check on them but don’t let her see because that distracts them x

My son also refuses everything at nursery. When I pick him up he’s so hungry. Only recently they managed crackers plain ones.. my son’s diet is so limited he doesn’t eat any meat. And doesn’t like pasta sauce and will only have ketchup on his pasta. I give him his regular meal and add one thing to it which was advise from a paediatrician he never eats it, but maybe one day he will x

Also would like to say I tried the tv hack and it really works although my son wont try anything new he ate all his dinneršŸŽ‰

@ChloĆ« I've tried it too and she ate quite a bit more than i thought but it took her ages to get through it to to point where i know her tea had gone coldšŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø she was too busy staring at the telly but at least she ate🄳

@Chloë amazing🩷🩷🩷

I’m so glad she ate more🩷

Oh yes, we were also sitting for about 45 minutes .. but he ate it all so it’s a win, and glad your little girl ate more food x
