Antenatal classes

Hello, has anyone attended the NHS in person antenatal classes at Queens? How did you find them and would you recommend them to a first time mum. Are there any other antenatal classes I should consider instead. I've looked at NCT classes but it seems quite pricey. Are these worth it? Thanks

I don't recommend NCT. Yes, you meet people through it and you can make friends BUT I feel that it didn't teach me anything to actually cope with labour. I went into labour and I had no idea how to deal with contractions, what to do, how to try and get the baby in good position and ease the pain. My labour experience wasn't great because I wasn't prepared enough

I attended the in personal antenatal day class and thought it was really good!

I attended as well the one at Queens, really informative but just really long day. I would suggest to go before you get too big, sitting all day was not comfortable even if we had lot of breaks, I'm 35w...they also offer classes online, might be more comfortable and it's split in two part

I attended the antenatal class at Queens and found it to be very informative and insightful. As Marie mentioned, it’s a long session with breaks in between. If you’re considering paid classes, I’d recommend attending this one first to absorb all the valuable information before investing in anything else.

Haven't done the queens one but would really recommend The Honest Midwife. She's absolutely brilliant. She has one free class then you can do the rest of the paid ones if you wish.

Thanks all, this is really helpful ❤️

Antenatal class in queens was brilliant, but just as others suggested was a long day! Also @thebabyacademyuk does a lot of free classes online and I found them extremely useful. There are loads too. At the end of them they try to convince you to pay for a more detailed class but absolutely not needed at all. My baby is now 6 months and when I was pregnant I just did the class at queens and all those free ones and I felt has been more than enough x

@Tess thank you for the info! Did you have to book for the class at queens? Or is it just a drop in? Online it mentions on a Saturday I couldn't find anymore information as some of the links don't work

@Jasmine at the time you had to book it through eventbrite. It books up very fast and it’s once a month I think. What I did was I contacted midwife via text and asked them to send me the link as soon as bookings open up X
