Ferber method sleep training
My daughter’s 11 months and we’ve recently gone cold turkey with the dummy. Since doing this, she’s struggling to get herself off to sleep and I don’t want to continue feeding/rocking to sleep. I’ve been attempting to do the Ferber method (with slightly adjusted timings) for the last few days and just had a couple of questions so that I know I’m doing it correctly.
I’ve been checking in after 1 minute, then 2 minutes, then 3 minutes and so on. If she’s not crying but is still awake, am I still going in after the timer’s gone off?? Or if she’s drifting off to sleep do I still need to go in?
I also attempted doing this in the middle of the night last night as she woke up screaming and she wasn’t having any of it 🥴 I’m hoping it was just teething but any other advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
We used the Ferber method with our first (but adjusted the timings as well). As I understood it you only start the timer if they are crying or calling for you. If they’re awake but settled you do nothing and don’t need to go it as it can disrupt them if they’re already settling themselves. Middle of the night was always a different ball game. Timings went out the window else she’d just work herself up into a state. As she got better at settling herself at bedtime, she got better in the night as well. Fingers crossed it works out for you!
