Why is it so hard for people to take pregnant women seriously about their HEALTH??

So I’m 32 weeks. This is my first and last pregnancy EVER. My OB prescribed me meds(HYDROCODONE) for my toothache but can’t accommodate me for reduced hrs…my shift is almost 12hrs 5days a week! My feet are in SEVERE pain after my shift that I can barely walk. She says “I don’t accommodate unless it’s a serious issue like preeclampsia and your blood pressure is fine” YES it’s fine now because I’ve been off work for 3 days and she says baby isn’t in distress just because I’m in distress….like I understand she’s not a podiatrist. However, I still am not able to take certain medications simply because it will cross over into the placenta and harm baby. Any meds a podiatrist tries to put me on for pain management will be limited or denied due to me being PREGNANT…the weight gain is putting more pressure on my feet. It’s a fucking joke and I’m so irritated atp.

I would take a reduced shift over taking hydrocodone meds for a damn toothache any day!!

This kind of stuff with dealing with physicians is so foreign to me . I don’t have a history of dealing with physicians who don’t do what I request them to do. & if I did I would switch immediately. As they are working for me & not the other way around. Imean obviously I wouldn’t be requesting things that are ridiculous. & I don’t think what you’re asking of her is. Idk maybe it’s how you communicate maybe you’re asking her when I typically tell people what I want .. also I take the time prior to selecting a physician to go check up on their ratings , reviews to see how they’re received by the general public. Referrals can be good also and I think it’s important as well to be knowledgeable on whatever your discussing with them so that they know that you did your homework and that you’re not the type of person that would just go along with any on thing they’re sending your way. I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through this and do hope that you make some kind of change

If this is how your OB is now, imagine during labor and delivery…

@Donna Thank you. I told her I needed an accommodation for reduced shifts so that I can have more time for my feet to rest because I’m taking a lot of Tylenol to manage pain(2,000mg) a day and using Lidocaine, taking hydrocodone and muscle relaxers (not all at once but piggybacking)… she was trying very hard to go against reducing my shift . My job is physically demanding and lots of walking. They won’t accommodate for me to have a chair so that’s why I asked for reduced hrs and she was trying to get me to go back to them and have them reduce my hrs but they already told me that I need an accommodation for that which is 100% understandable.

@✨Wis 🇭🇹 Exactly!! I’m side eyeing her very hard now. I can’t get over “baby isn’t in distress because you are in distress” 😳yea no. Can’t imagine delivery day.

@Nina🤍 I would switch immediately. Sounds like the kind of doctor that would cause you to have an emergency cesarean (cause many are like that unfortunately)

I would switch. I went to a midwifery because I was so worried I wouldn't be able to have the intervention free natural birth I wanted because so many of my friends have been disrespected (and because I wanted a water birth). At the midwifery I was always 100% respected and my birth plan was followed to a tee. I was amazing. So go with someone who gives you no doubt they will respect you.

@Susie I will deff check out a midwife and look into a different OB that accepts my insurance because unfortunately it is very little that do. I feel like she won’t take me seriously during labor which can potentially cause me to die during birth so I’ll just be another statistic in healthcare, just worried I won’t be able to see my daughter if things go wrong in the delivery room.

Yeah if you already have such concerns I would look into alternatives. Because it's YOUR body and they should definitely listen

Switch immediately. Don’t even think twice about it

drop her immediately. maybe try checking a local mom group on Facebook for recommendations

@Nina🤍 I went through something extremely similar but with severe sciatica pain. I honestly had to beg the dr to write me a letter to be released from work earlier thank expected which btw was my due date. They gave me the run around even saying I would get fired. So I sent a LONG message telling them how sick I was of crying everyday and crying to them for them to not listen. That it was effecting my mental health and I said what will it take for this letter? Me falling over at work or slipping on the job? I worded it a lot more strongly than this. They then gave me what I needed. I really feel for you and you can message me to vent

Girl switch that doc! Don’t wait until you have a serious fall , if you are stressed , it does stress the baby, cortisol in the body is cortisol no matter the reason behind it!
