Mold on clothes

There was a moldy onesie in my baby’s laundry basket (it was covered in food from thanksgiving and moist) is the whole basket ruined? Will washing everything in hot water and then drying it be safe or should I toss everything in there to be safe?

Toss the molded onsie. Wash everything in hot water and add a laundry sanitizer (Lysol makes one). Then wash again as normal with a double rinse.

Totally agree with Aime. If you don’t use things like laundry sanitizer, I would suggest doing some in your wash! It won’t work exactly the same, but it is better than nothing.

hi! i actually had a similar problem a month or two ago from stupidly storing old clothes in the basement. you dont need to toss the onsie or any of the basket. first, rinse the chunks of food off the onsie (if any) and put everything in the wash on the hottest setting possible. put a little extra detergent than normal and a full scoop of oxi clean powder (i recommend adding some baking soda to the wash as well as itll take out the musty smell). just one wash should be fine but feel free to repeat the above twice just for peace of mind. the hottest water setting is very important, hot hot water will kill mold on clothes. if youd feel safer as well, boil some water and soak the onsie in that until the water gets cool enough to touch before washing it. absolutely no judgement here mama 🫶🏻 feel free to message me privately if you need help
