I don’t think nutritionally babies need food until about 1yo as they get everything they need from breast milk or formula, so as long as she’s having enough of that I wouldn’t worry too much ☺️ Food is all about learning and experiencing, it should be fun and explorative for them! Having said all the my 6 month old boy is struggling with being sick a lot since starting baby led weaning/purees, I’m going to get some advice from the health visitor. He’s a bit under the weather so I’m hoping it’s just because he’s not feeling too well and nothing serious
My 8 month old is exactly the same. Doesn’t like being spoon fed… won’t put hardly any finger foods in her mouth. We also started off fairly well with BLW but we’ve just had no increase/improvement, if anything it’s the other direction 😕
@Katie that’s interesting that the HV said it’s normal. I’ve been thinking about getting in touch with mine but tbh don’t have any other concerns so didn’t want it to become a big thing if it’s not necessary yet
Sounds like she might just not be hungry. Try reducing milk and when you offer them. Kids are people, and if they’re not hungry then they’re not going to want to eat.
Till 1 year the main source of nutrition for babies are milk so let that baby play with their food and don't worry :)
Some babies just simply don’t care for it. Food is for fun until 1! Let her play and explore and don’t worry! As long as she’s having milk (formula or breast) it’s absolutely fine! My LO is not a fan of puréed food and likes to hold the food and try eat. She doesn’t get much from it but she enjoys the process and being a big girl 😂 baby yoghurt on the other hand is like crack to this kid!
I could have written this myself. Bubba started off slow and then was amazing - trying all sorts of food (olives and curried peas) and now it’s just so hit and miss. I’ve been doing a combination of BLW and purées but I feel like I can’t judge when he’s in the mood or not to eat. My only worry is that my HV told me that it is important they are eating food as at 6 months bubbas iron stores deplete and they need food to help maintain their iron levels. Wish I had some advice but I’m here with you. I end up shoving a spoonful or two in when he’s got his mouth open just so I know he’s had something but then I worry I’m making negative associations with feeding lol. Can’t win 🤦♀️. I have thought about also serving foods I know he likes, but then I worry he will just keep eating those and not trying the others. I spend the rest of the time sitting there and letting him play and make a mess with the food. I think we just need to keep persevering and serving food everyday
Yeh I’ve tried finger foods pretty much every day for the past month and my baby will pick up whatever it is, put it in his mouth and then look at me absolutely disgusted 😅 but can’t force feed him so will just keep trying. He does eat purées/mash but not very much, but again I don’t want to pressure him. Only thing he consistently loves is the water 😆
I’ve recently listened to this podcast and found it helpful. I think it’s quite breastfeeding centred, but it’s mainly about starting solids and covers when they’re not eating much, when to offer after milk etc. https://open.spotify.com/episode/0KRs5U2gSZzbuZrgS6ZNja?si=hMSQqjKNQrizuVYYQ8UQiQ&context=spotify%3Ashow%3A5jRjUN2RGmJsho2hFssypa
My 9 month old is the same. Some days she will have a tiny bit and other days she will either play with it or just refuse it all together. Some babies just are not interested yet. All you can do is try. I have spoken to a nurse and health visitor about it and they say it’s pretty normal.
