teat size

my 2 week old isn't gaining weight, my midwife suggested upping a teat size which i did mention before hand as he's on milk thickner due to reflux, once she had a second opinion she suggested not too. Has anyone ever upped a size for this age and has it been okay?

My LO is 8 months and we're still on size 1 😂 but you can try it if your midwife suggested it

How come your still on size 1? xx

We’ve never increased after a size 2 and he’s 2 years old. If they are struggling with size 1, increasing the teat size just increases the flow so it can cause them to splutter on it. My LB’s cause of reflux was tongue tie (HV’s and GP’s aren’t qualified to carry out the assessment).

Deffo size up with rellux milk Our first was on it and was so hard to get the milk through 0 and 1 Tessa’s

@Molly by baby doesn't mind and is gaining beautifully, he's in the 80th percentile so we never felt the need to change it

@Kath thank you i think we will, when his milk ran out of time i had a go of getting some and i had to suck quite hard to get it so i dont think hes getting enough and is just getting tired during feeds so hes not finishing them xxxx

There's no harm in trying it out, you'll see if it works better immediately ☺️

Thank you everyone😊hoping he has put on weight when the midwife comes on the weekend xx

Every baby is different, if you think it will help try it! 😊 My 17 month old has just stopped using baby bottles for milk, but we never moved on from a size 1 teat 🤣

If they're on thickened milk aren't they supposed to be on fast teats anyway otherwise it's too hard to suckle

@Katie i thought this too! ive bought some bigger tests and see how he goes😊xx

My little man was on size 2 from two weeks old, he was preterm and jaundice so needed feeding often (every 2 hours) but he wouldn't take much, he was a lazy drinker and would get tired quickly, it was taking a while for the jaundice to go, he got very close to his levels having to be light treated so they suggested upping the size. He went from size 0-2 in like two weeks. Worked for us, he's a chunky 8/9m old now.

@Katie ah that's reassuring knowing somebody else has done it, the infant feeding team at the hospital said not too but i think it'll work🤞🏼that's what my little boys like, because it's coming out so slow he's getting tired and falling asleep mid bottle so it's not getting finished. I'm hoping on sunday when the midwife comes he's put on weight xx
