Baby won’t feed herself

Baby will not hold a spoon or pick up food and put it in her mouth just throws it and she’s 8 months now. No idea what to do.

Throwing is a very normal part of learning to self feed she’s just exploring

@Yasmin she’s never once brought anything to her mouth at 8 months though not even once…

Does that include toys?

@Natalie Yeo she’s never taken a dummy, Teether nothing goes in her mouth

That sounds like she's not ready to wean yet tbh. Bringing items to their mouth is part of the signs of being ready. Was she born on time? Id speak to the health visitor to see what they suggest.

@Natalie she’ll eat if I feed her though and will grab food from her own plate or even mine just not put it in her own mouth

Yeah but the skill of bringing food to her mouth is a sign of being ready to wean. If she isn't doing that yet that would suggest to me she's not.

My daughter will be one in 2 weeks. She can pick up food and feed herself but cannot use a spoon. But if it’s any reassurance & I know you’ll hear it all the time but babies go at different rates and may be ahead in some areas and ‘behind’ in others. My daughter is great at many things but she cannot crawl, she can just about roll from her back to her front & although she can hold her weight on her legs she can’t pull herself up and is nowhere near ready to walk. She also couldn’t sit unaided till around 9/10 months. I know it’s easier said than done but please try not to worry about what your baby may or may not be doing yet. Health visitors(UK) are absolutely fantastic at giving advice for things your worried about. Continue spoon feeding and keep encouraging finger foods if your comfortable to. She will get there ❤️

@Lauren thank you so much just what I needed to hear xx
