@Tess So many people have been driving me mad and treating me like I'm crazy because I've been making everything fresh and that somehow I'm being cruel as I'm just feeding him plain foods as opposed to buying the different flavoured jars. 🙄
@Tess To clarify I think parents should do whatever is right for their family but I hate the pressure people put on us as parents.
Most of the things I give her for tea are pre-prepared frozen veg that I chuck in the microwave and mash 😅 we do the odd pouch but that's more for ease if we're low on time or she's going to Grandma's for the night
I’m really confused by that! I find it insane. Like you said different things work for different people, and there’s no judgement but can’t deny facts and the fact is that home cooked food is healthier 🤷🏻♀️ obviously the store bought stuff are safe to eat but doesn’t mean they’ll be the most nutritious. Im just starting weaning and doing a combination of purées and finger foods. I don’t plan to give jars at all, unless emergency. I’m happy to give some store bought snacks/yoghurts though 😊
Never given a pouch or jar and I won’t unless I’m out and caught short without his food! Everything is handmade and fresh x
@Tess Absolutely no judgement because I know how it feels when I don't have the energy to cook for myself or my partner, so if pouches and jars work better for people, they have to do what's right for them. However I don't understand being judged negatively because I'm giving my child one food at a time (all freshly prepared) to try for a few days, before moving on to the next. We started about 12 days ago and so far we've done mainly blended/lumpy and a puree. Next up is fruit and finger foods!
@Elena This is how I feel personally. If I'm in a bind like you've mentioned, ill, etc. then I'll continue doing the same and making it fresh.
Yeah not sure what’s their problem 😂 I’ve done several starting solid classes and what you’re doing is exactly what’s recommended.
It doesn’t take long I don’t know why people make such a song and dance about not having time.. breakfast you can literally give toast, porridge, yoghurt if you don’t wanna make pancakes or anything fancy.. lunch can be puréed veg which takes maximum 30 mins to boil and blend or you can make carrot fritters in less than 10 mins.. dinner I literally give whatever I had the night before with no salt or spice 🤷🏻♀️ it makes no sense to say there is no time plus the amount of money wasted on a pouch is a joke! I dunno about you but maternity money is shit I can barely afford life let alone paying £1.50 for ONE meal x
My daughter is 7 months She as toast in the mornings Pouch or jar for lunch as we're hardly home Evenings she as pureed fruit or veg with a tiny bit of porridge
@Tess One person in particular constantly has something to say about everything! 🙄 My little one was struggling to settle once while we were out visiting family, he was overdue a nap and the surroundings were new, as were most of the people. She told me to pass him (she is related) as she has the (and I quote) "motherly touch". 🙄🫠
@Elena I do understand from others points of view because you never know what's going on behind closed doors. I don't however see the need to judge those who decide to do things fresh, etc. It's all love and care for the little ones, and us trying to do our best as parents. My maternity pay is also absolute dog shit. I'm on SMP and have been since I came on maternity. My savings are so low now too. 😩
@Lee Oh wow she's really going for it, love that for you guys! 😍 When did you start weaning?
Blw! My baby gets what the rest of the family is eating.

Ew I can’t stand that sort of behaviours. 🤮 I end up being quite rude when people get like that. I would have likely said “no thanks” haha
@Lee if you already make purées and you wanted to save on pouches etc, I have this. You can make your own pouches and take with you when you’re on the go! https://amzn.eu/d/gaMBpMR
@Charlotte How are you finding that?
@Tess Honestly, if it wasn't for a serious reason that we were visiting I probably would've been more cut throat with my response. When they usually ask me, I'm like that's OK but that comment pissed me off big time. 🤣
I am mostly making my own…. And I’ve got one of those refillable pouch makers for when I’m out and about. Mostly so I have more control over what’s being eaten . But I have bought a few pouches as back up.
@Victoria Definitely going to look into getting one of those for flexibility!
I give my little girl all the food we eat, but she’s been weaned since 4 and half months as I could tell she was ready to start. Food xx
I started weaning at 4 months, when I had my eldest that was the guidelines (she's 20) a lot of places say 6 months now. When she started she had only 2 baby spoons of porridge in morning then started having a pouch a day . We now give pouch at lunch, By 5 months was having toast and now at 7 months as 3 lots a day x
@Tess oh I've never saw those before 😯 Are they difficult to do
@Lee So you'd say it took you guys about 2 months to work bub up to 3 meals a day? Oh wow, 20 year difference between them. How does that feel? I'd love my guy to have a sibling but I'm in my late 30's now and don't have the energy that I used to. 🤣😅
This baby yes,but all of mine were different,my eldest was nightmare and didn't want anything but milk and was struggle to get her off her bottle. Just try few spoonfuls and see how you get on,she then started quarter of pouch, then half, then full pouch. Now I usually blend 3 or 4 strawberries with bit of baby porridge and she loves it . 20 year age gap came as a big shock as I've just turned 40. I was married really young at 18 and had 2 children by age 22 I then got divorced and met my 2nd husband and we have a 12+9 year old and then the surprise baby who is 7 months, I say surprise as was told after my 9 year old we couldn't have more x
@Lee nah not at all!
@Lee That's amazing, congratulations to you both! 🎉 This guy has been pretty good with everything he's had. You could tell he was unsure about the texture of the lumpier food at first, since then he's soared through with each veg we've tried! 🥰 At the moment he's having one portion of veg a day and then topped up with milk (he's been exclusively EBF until we started weaning), if he's still hungry.
My daughter likes veg ones but she definitely prefers the fruits as obviously sweeter, but didn't want to get her to used to that so every other day we give her a vegetable one,she hates peas, but loves pumpkin, carrots, potatoes, swede x
@Lee That was exactly why we started on a chunk of veg first. 😅 I have a terrible sweet tooth and rather he not inherit that!

We are doing blw and combi with pouches mainly the Ella's kitchen ones. Tried her with a few Heinz jars but she's not a fan. She's on 2 meals a day along side her bottles she will be 7 months on the 9th. She loves anything she can feed herself and We haven't had any Gagging really, if she thinks the foods to big she just pushes it back out with her tongue. I tried making my own and I salute the people that do but the same with the pouches she's not a fan of things on their own. And it ends up being costly trying to figure out what goes together and what she likes. Was fine even we introduced tastes at around 4 months but now i think it's not an issue giving pouches when basically all the works done for you and they have no additives, rather then blend lots of things together to figure it out. I don't have a blender but I do have one coming for Xmas so maybe I'll try more. I got a book called what mummy makes that's helped a lot on what to give her ect.
i do a mix my lovely. my baby just isn’t ready for blw currently so we’re sticking with the puree for a bit xx
My Baby boy is just having what I have. Tonight he had steak fettuccine. Steak was in strips, mushrooms cut small and the pasta as it is . My boy loves it and haven’t found anything he doesn’t like yet
