@Laura the thing is I was tested late, I’m almost 33 w, and I don’t know what to expect next
You will be fine honestly. You’ll likely be contacted by the diabetes team and they’ll talk you through how to control it with diet first. This will probably be with a dietician. They’ll also give you a blood monitor and ask you to test first thing in the morning and one hour after each meal to monitor how they are xx
@Laura thank you for the words. I’m honestly very sad with this news , I’m not used with the idea yet and for me is unknown
Sleep on it and let it sink in ❤️ there is a gestational diabetes group on here too if you want to check it out xx
I passed both my tests but then got put under observation due to amniotic pool levels and my fasting levels are too high (morning test) As my diet was managing my day time we tried a night time snack which brought my levels down but not enough so they've started me on metformin tablets at night. Most of the time it's pretty manageable! Don't worry about it too much until you've spoken to the diabetes team (easier said than done!) They'll look after you 🥰 In terms of high risk it might just mean you're in a consultant led room instead of midwife room foe delivery- but (depending on the conversation and sugar levels) it could make no difference at all other than needing to take your little testing kit with you. It's a spectrum! You'll probably also get a few more growth scans too (I was on them already for other factors) which means- on the plus side- I've seen baby a lot more on screen 😁
Trying not to feel too down on yourself anyone can get GD, it’s all based on how your placenta does or doesn’t absorb insulin effectively x
@Katie thank you 🥹
@Kay thank you for information 🫶
I cried hysterically the first day or two I found out, now I wish I’d not worried so much! My parents brought me round a load of healthy food and I got my test kit and I started to feel more positive about the situation. It really isn’t as bad as I originally thought. The testing really doesn’t bother me and eating healthier is making me feel way better and as far as I know baby is absolutely fine. I get to see her more now, she’s still a little wriggle monster and it looks like I’ll be meeting her a little bit sooner too 😊
@Katie how far are you? 🫶
I’m 31+4 now and found out a few weeks ago x
Why are you so upset? It’s not your fault at all. Yeah I’ve had it since 24 weeks and it’s inconvenient but not bad. How far along are you? It won’t be long that you’ll have to manage it for xx
