@Ariel can you share the videos 🙏
My son is also behind but I have to wait until his new insurance kicks in before I find him a therapist
@Ariel I’m going through the same with my daughter’s doctor. He just keeps brushing me off
Thanks for sharing! My son is also having a hard time with his speech. He had a tough go with daycares and ended up at home after being in the PICU. He says a few words but not as many as my 6 year old did at this age. He has a pediatrician appointment this week and I hope to get it addressed.
My son has been in speeech therapy since September. They have him doing some sign language but he is picking up words and last week just started with saying thank you mama when I hand him his milk or juice. Don’t be hard on yourself all our kids learn at different paces. My son’s issue was his paternal side isolating him and refusing to accept when the pediatrician pointed out his delay at 18 months.
My oldest is speech delayed. Speech therapy has been a game changer. He was basically nonverbal til he was 3 and we got him started. He had started saying about 5 words the couple months before we started. It's been 9 months and he's so much better. He's starting to say short sentences. We're still working on pronunciation and getting those letter sounds. My son for some reason will just do the vowel sounds of a word. But I totally get you it's super frustrating. All it is is just continuing to be an example and keep talking and they'll catch on eventually. Some kids are able to get their needs across without words and don't see a point in it. My son was one of those. At 2 we first started speech therapy but that place would only see him twice a month and was no help. Then she never showed up for an appointment and didn't contact me after. So we paused for a bit and got started again around his 3rd birthday back in March. He's been going twice a week since and it's a whole new world for us now.
Mine knows words and will say them but if we look surprised or give him praise he gets really shy. Which it's hard not to be excited. I'll hold off worrying about speech till he's 3 and go from there. I've mentioned it to my parents and they aren't concerned at all. Mainly cause we've all heard him talk lol. But don't be so hard on yourself. They've only been in this world for 2 or so years. It's a lot to learn. You're doing great mama!
My four year old is in speech therapy right now and it has made such a big difference. I told her doctor when she was about two that I thought she needed it but they never would send a referral they just kept putting it off. I feel like had she started sooner her speech wouldn’t be as delayed as it is. But we just started a few months ago, her speech therapist comes to our house twice a week for her therapy sessions. I’ve also ordered quite a bit of speech therapy stuff like toys, cards and busy books from amazon and I sit down and have her play and practice words on the days she doesn’t have therapy. Our therapist also recommended a few YouTube videos that help show kids how to properly make sounds, like showing where their tongue or lips should be to properly make the sounds.
