Definitely start offering different textures like oatmeal purees ect i didnt try different textures now i have an extremely picky child

@Noelle good point! Thank you :)

I tried BLW to start but she refused so I just went with purées (plus WIC covered it)

Exactly the same situation as @Brynne

Bangers and mash for her first meal 😋 she has basically what we have and has from the start at 6mo. She's now coming up 9 months and such a good eater. Last night we had something different as her Dad and I had pizza. She couldn't have any of his as it had cheese (she's allergic to dairy so her and I are df) and I find df cheese to be really claggy and difficult to eat (I didn't finish the pizza in the end because of this) so I gave her a little bit of sauce filled crust, avocado slices and a mini corn on the cob.

I tired doing BLW but she wasn’t interested AT ALL! So I did purées and when she was nearly 8 months she woke up one morning and started refusing purée so I tried BLW again and she took to it like a duck to water! It was as if we had been doing that the whole time!

Ugh @Katie giving me hope here! My baby has JUST started feeding himself teething crackers. But then I tried puffs and he just played with them. It's a hit or miss with us!

@Susie I think it does just take some babies a while to come around to the idea! It is hard because my friend had a son who was a couple weeks younger and she did BLW from 6 months and her child would eat everything! But when my daughter suddenly started wanting finger foods she was just as good at eating as my friend’s son who had been doing it for 2 months. For the longest time I would sit there and watch her child devour meal after meal and I felt jealous that my daughter wouldn’t do that. And then I’d feel bad for having those feelings. Motherhood is a rollercoaster 😅😅

Ahahaha isn't it 😂 Is she as messy as all the Instagram videos suggest?

My baby was very hungry and I used to put ruck in her bottle then when she was 5/6 months she’s was high cal yogurts, porridge etc it’s what you feel your baby is ready to eat, I got support from a dietitian but other then that it’s what you feel right x

They ate what I ate . It was easier foods though and I did by like those purée food for long trip and snacks. But they eat so little at this age that it didn’t make sense to buy baby food. They still needed their breast milk or formulas and the food was just there for them to try. I Just avoided food they can’t have at this age like honey.

Choking is a very real risk! No finger foods before teeth and even after teeth, gotta be VERY careful! At least one child dies from choking on food every five days in the U.S (https://www.health.ny.gov/prevention/injury_prevention/choking_prevention_for_children.htm#:~:text=At%20least%20one%20child%20dies,year%20for%20food%2Dchoking%20injuries.)

We started with purees because I was scared, but he hated them! So I was kinda forced to just go right to him eating chopped up versions of whatever we were having. With this second baby, I'll do that right from the jump.

He hated the purees so quickly moved to a blw approach with lots of research into how to serve things safely. For this baby I am going to introduce puree by putting it on the tray for her to play with and learn texture but do the same blw approach if she likes it.

@Carys i would be open to trying this but i think im anxious about the allergies too so im following the rule of just exposing them to one thing at a time for 3 days then maybe combining the stuff he’s tried into a meal at the end of the week? Like celebratory meal 😂

@Allie Omg the little teefs showing 🥹 also that suit he has on, is that for eating?

@Deeann what’s Ruck

@Vanessa scary!!!

I deff relate to everyone who shares the nervousness of not doing purees. I guess I’ll try with purees for a bit until i see him able to like move it around and understand it then go into finger foods?? I’ve watched ted talks saying how babies shouldn’t really eat purees bc the consistency but I’m def nervous

I started on purées and still on them now at 7 months I am too scared to do finger food

@Tatiana we took the main allergens one at a time and made a meal plan to cover that. Baby has cmpa and there's family history of egg allergy so I was very nervous of egg in particular. We did one main allergen for 2 days (so finned fish was first with tuna one day and salmon the next) then a day of no new allergens, then 2 days of the next allergen. We were going on holiday at 8 months so I wanted as many tested and exposed regularly so I didn't have to worry about it abroad.

Mine started just before 5 months as she would grab my food off my plate

@Carys that’s a good ideaaa

Finger food and small portions of what we ate. Skipped purées for the most part

I did both purée and soft solids to start

Honestly a mix of all of the above. Purées and “gummable” foods and then when more teeth came in he ate finger foods or whatever we ate

@Tatiana It was a Bibado long sleeve bib but tbh I only used it a handful of times 😅 Really annoying to clean, silicone scoop bib for the win 💯

7m old now and we're still on purees and some textured lumpy foods

I gave my baby puree lentils today & he was basically DRINKING it 😂

@Allie bibado just rinse and then in the washing machine?
