Starting solids

Has anyone started solids with their August bub yet? I made the mistake of letting my LO lick my banana last week, and now everytime I eat something she grunts at me until I give her a taste. Everywhere I've looked says to start at a minimum of 4 months, but that's technically still 3 weeks away

I’m nervous too because my baby has trouble holding his head still.. I did however put a little bit of avocado on his lip. he will be 4 months on the 15th but he was born at 36W so since he’s a little delayed I planned to wait until 5-6 months

I think 4 months is the best time if your baby is sitting up good & holding head up good !

She has great neck control and can sit up with minimal support, definitely okay in a highchair At first she was just licking everything, but has been swallowing mash potato and similar the last few days. She has all the "ready for feeding cues", just not sure if I should commit to starting as she is still so young!

If she’s ready then let her but not too much. Just a taste so she can develop a palette.

My girl has amazing neck control but doesn't sit up on her own. I let her lick an apple and blueberry. She liked it. It's the right time for baby when baby starts mooching. Give a spoon to told onto and if that doesn't distract baby enough baby is ready.

@Amanda same for my lo. She has been holding her head up for a while but has trouble sitting up by herself. She’s fine if we lean her on something she stays for the most part. I want to start her on food but kinda scared too. She will be 4 months on the 12th

I haven’t but he is obsessed with my food! We started our first at 4 1/2 month so I have been waiting

I have been wondering g about starting solids, just a bit of mashed banana or baby rice/porridge. But my health visitor said he’s not ready for food until he can roll both ways and can sit up. Which he hasn’t quite mastered yet, but I have been giving him little tastes of banana and avocado. He’s definitely interested in food.

@Charlotte Look my son can’t roll at all but he can sit up with support and you know baby better than anyone I’m not given my son loads only little bits solids xx

I just started my girl trying baby foods this week, with little spoonfuls at each feeding. So far she’s tried strawberry/banana, & just plain banana. She likes the strawberry banana mix better.

On the first tries of food are you mixing their milk?

@Star you can start earlier at 4 months if your child is ready and needing the extra calories to help them sleep through the night.

@Star unless recommended by a health visitor. Every baby is different and there isn’t a one size fits all.

@Star in your opinion. Like I say what works for you and your little one may not work for someone else and visa versa. Starting solids is recommended at 6 months but can be started 4-6 months if advised by a health visitor or if your baby needs more calories to stop the night wake ups and for them to sleep through the night. As I said it’s not one size fits all and I’m not going to get into a slanging match with you about it, you do what’s best for you and your baby and allow others to do the same without judgement. 👋🏼

@Star okay good for you.

@Star I’m happy for you.

I’m going to start mine once he turns 4 months. Was advised to start with baby porridge and very little rice to see how baby gets on Most packaging says 4 months and 6 months

@Star yes most professional recommend starting at 6 months
