What questions should I ask when going for a nursery Viewing

My LG is 8 months old and funnily enough I am a nursery practitioner but have decided not to put her in the same nursery as me, however as a practitioner I have never really thought about questions and viewings and all that. I have done some googling but nothing beats a mum brain any advice and ideas for would be helpful xx

How they recruit their staff? Where they recruit them from (in case it’s an agency) what checks are done? And how much prior experience/training/certificates are required for their staff.

i agree with the comment above. i would also ask about ratios of adult to children supervision, protocols for incident reports when children are hurt, protocols for sickness of children and staff, how often are diaper changes, how do they manage feed schedules for multiple children. as a former childcare worker those are things i would want to know about for my child’s well-being.

For me I found it difficult to think of questions on our visits/settling in sessions so I’d say number one is “who and how do I contact with any questions/queries I may have and what response time should I expect” as honestly I only had a few basic questions on these visits and enrolment stages. I found I had sooo many more questions a few weeks in! Fortunately our nursery has a very good app they provide for the parents where you can message the nursery staff during sessions and get responses back usually within the hour or an email/phone line to their main office where someone is always available.
