Speech

Does your little ones speak in sentences? My boy knows a lot of words, all the colors, shapes, animals, can count to over 100 and he can say those numbers backwards (100 to 1) , knows abcs, he also writes few numbers and letters, but he doesn’t want to speak a lot. Not sure how to encourage him to speak more.

My son doesn't speak in sentences yet, just 3 word ones. Your son sounds very advanced and like he's focusing his attention other areas 😊

Mine can do sentences but doesn't know lots of words? So when she's doing sentences you'll either have a full one or random words will be the babble version 😂 it properly makes me laugh 😂 I'd say it's probably similar to other things, so 1 baby walks early and another talks early :P by the sounds of it your LO has learnt so much!! Might just be focusing on the amount of words and things as opposed to putting them all together :) your LO sounds insanely intelligent so you're definitely doing something right! :)

Dang he knows a ton that’s amazing. When he does speak what does he do. Like do you know he knows things things just by him repeating it to you? Or does he say them often. My son doesn’t know a whole lot definitely not compared to that but he talks a ton. Never shuts up. But it’s still a lot of gibberish. Some things we know but it’s usually only like a 3 word sentence. And then the rest of just sounds when he says something for like multiple sentences

My son speaks in sentences but I know between 2-3 their speech levels can be so broad and before you know it they’re chatting away. He knows a lot so I wouldn’t worry at all! X

It started about 15 months old she would learn a new word every day, then it was 3 new words every day & then it was just I didn't know you could say that! She's been using simple sentences since 18 months now she can properly talk. She can sing the ABC song but can't match it to the letters yet. Not much interest in drawing or colouring so not got very far with trying to teach her letters either. But she knows all the words to all the Frozen songs & loves to sing. My daughter learns really well through music, perhaps try teaching him some songs?🤷‍♀️

She does but in the local language. She’s starting to learn English now and her English is limited to 1-3 word bursts

The best thing to do is to have really exaggerated (read easy to follow by clear pronunciation) conversations with your LO all day every day. Narrate everything you guys do. “Oh are you feeling hungry? You can say “I’m hungry!” What can we eat? What would you like to eat? We have eggs, bananas, or yoghurt. Would you like any of those? You can say “I want/would like a banana, please” let’s peel it together. Wow, it’s such a beautiful yellow banana! It looks so yummy! Can you smell it? Does it smell good?” Basically just like that, all day every day. It’s how my first learnt to speak sentences so young (1-1.5) and how my LO speaks so well in the local language (better than local babies… to the shock of the natives… she’s very different to them regarding looks!) You have to get over sounding a little ridiculous to yourself though hahaha but the payoff makes you forget it so quickly once they pick up on it.

Thank you everyone for replying. He is learning two languages so maybe thats why is more difficult for him. He mixes both of them, but definitely knows more in english.
