Drop in sugar levels with foods I can’t normally eat!?

So I’m 28 weeks pregnant and I had two slices of white toast for my breakfast because I didn’t have any seeded left.. normally if I did that I’d spike but I was left with a reading of 7.1 after 1 hr. I take 6 units of insulin before breakfast but it would have still raised my levels. I also had a chocolate brownie with my lunch and my levels was 7.3 after 1hr… I just always remember my diabetic nurse saying the diabetes seems to get worse the further you go on in pregnancy and if it wasn’t then we would be worried about your placenta… so now I’m freaking out

That's a lot of insulin for two pieces of toast so 7.1 isn't too low imo, are you taking background insulin also?

It’s just because I’ve always struggled at keeping my levels in the “normal” range so for me it’s weird that I haven’t spiked even tho that might be normal for others.. what’s that? I take insulin before breakfast, lunch and tea and then take slow release for the night as my morning levels was too high which have seem to be normal now

As long as it’s under 7.8 then it’s a good reading? It means the insulin is working. I wouldn’t worry at all about this

Yeah nighttime is background insulin. So you're on a lot of insulin tbf, have they checked you for Type 2? (I'm a diabetes nurse btw). If you're really anxious I'd advise asking for a placenta efficiency scan to see whether there's issues but it tends to be be very low levels that don't rise that are a result of placenta issues, not 7's

I’m on 14 units with dinner and I have ham on 2 toast. But then sometimes I find I eat crap and it’s not as high. A lot of it for me at least is hormone based. So could be the case for you?

Thanks for your replies! I’m just an anxious wreck constantly and I have got my first growth scan on Wednesday! Baby girl is moving and kicking all the time! It’s just because I’m so used to having high levels all the time, the moment I have stable levels I think something is wrong 😅

I’ve never even thought about it that way? Should it be a worry? Mine are always within range and I’m 36 weeks. No one has mentioned anything about the placenta to me

@Laura no, it's if you start hypoing between like 28 and 35 weeks with sugars refusing to go up, not stable sugars
