I was told I’m a carrier of thalassemia and was told it wouldn’t affect my boy unless the father is too. Which he was and then I was told that my boy wouldn’t develop a haemoglobin disorder
Thank you so much, my blood has been for further testing to confirm if I do have it or not, so awaiting not so patiently for that 😭 thank you so much x
I had this during my last pregnancy, bloods show possible alpha thalassemia carrier. However it was due to low iron levels, I was consultant led anyway. And already have iron deficiency anaemia, so was told they would give extra iron tablets and if my iron levels dropped any lower they would then give iron infusion. The only thing they may request is that babies dad is tested. It shouldn’t affect baby in anyway unless dad is a carrier from what I can think of. My little one was born healthy and no issues, but they did have to do regular bloods through out pregnancy and after due to blood loss after birth.
Hiiii! I had the letter “possible alpha thalassemia carrier”. I was already consultant led so in my appointment at around 17 weeks because I received the letter when I was 16 weeks pregnant (bloods done at 13 weeks but letter didn’t come for 3 weeks). She said my haemoglobin levels were low which is common in people who have recently had children, have low iron anyway, or have bled recently. She also said that within wales they are doing audits for it atm. Mine was personally nothing to worry about, I had the bloods repeated and have had nothing through. Just started on iron tablets to get my iron up. I would try not to panic, definitely speak to your midwife as she can tell you what your levels were compared to what was normal. Hope this somewhat helps x
