Bedtime milk

Are you still giving your toddler’s milk before bed? If so, how much? And if not, how did you wean them off? My toddler still drinks a good 240ml of cows milk in a toddler bottle and in bed after brushing his teeth. I cant see cutting this out going well for bedtime. He’s already waking up loads and sometimes bedwetting but if it’s not developmentally beneficial i’ll take the leap but I need all the tips 😭😭

Still having milk before bed and no intention of cutting out.. I still have a glass of milk before bed 😂

Yeah still having milk in a bottle before bed. The nights she doesn't have it, she wakes up hungry in the night. Won't eat supper either so we'll be having it for the foreseeable I think!

@Isa @Bethanyomds I feel so much better haha thank you! We’ll keep it as part of his bedtime routine then! How much are your LO’s having?

Haha i often find myself thinking oh i should stop this or that but then i think, they're only little for a short time and every other milestone has been met when she is ready so I'm not going to push it. She won't have a bottle when she's 18, so it'll be fine! 😂🙈She'll have between 8-11oz in bed x

I offer maybe 250mls in an open cup and she will drink whatever she wants.. sometimes 100mls sometimes the whole lot 😂

Yes ours have a sippy cup of about 4oz of cow's milk with their vitamins in. No plans to stop, when they're older they can decide. E.g. our 5yo doesn't want milk before bed and says so.

My boy is a Dec 22 baby and still has bottles of milk before sleep and once or twice overnight when he wakes and asks for one. If he wants/needs it I'll give it x

@Bethany this is a great viewpoint and tbh, it’s true, especially if us as adults have a warm or hot drink before bed, why can’t they?? 😅😅This is really reassuring, thank you xx

@Isa i wish I could trust my toddler with an open cup but he has it in bed ao bottle is safer 😅😅this is great to know though, thank you xxx

@Hannah this is great to know, thank you! I guess it gets easier when they can verbally communicate better too! But as it stands, my toddler holds his hand out for his milk so no stopping for now for sure 😅

@Ash aww bless him. Love that he is able to indicate what he wants! What kind of bottle do you use for his morning and night milk? Thank you for the reassurance not to worry. It’s true! I often have a hot cup of ovaltine late night when feeling cold or peckish and need comforting

@Vicky aww this is great to hear! Thank you so much. Yes often when my toddler wakes up earlier than normal, say between 5/5:30am we usually give him his morning bottle then, and aometimes he’ll go back down for a short nap before starting his day then he’ll just have breakfast. Other nights he sleeps through or wakes up due to a full nappy so it’s do hit and miss. Does your Dec baby also need a nappy change in the night due to the night bottles?

@Isa also, does your LO still need nappy changes or does their nappy hold until morning?

We normally give it on the changing mat while changing her for the night so if she spills something it's not too bad though she very rarely does.. no I have not changed her nappy at night since when she was maybe 4 months so it's been a while! We use kit and kin and never had any issues with leaks at night :)

Probably half the time his nappy gets done overnight, if it looks very full we do it to save leaks. Milk keeps him asleep so I'm not stopping that and causing issues 😂

@Isa ooo okay, this is food for thought and well done to her being able to drink with minimal to no spillage! My toddler loves to hold and spit liquids out when he thinks it’s funny to do, so I can’t trust him just yet 😅😅😅 Oo amazing, glad that nappy brand is working for you!! Im finding Aldi is working better than Pampers at the minute 🥹

@Vicky I don’t blame you 😅 why fix something that isn’t broken hey! What nappy brand you using for night sleep?

Ours has a sippy cup of like 4oz cows milk before bed every night and don’t plan on changing this as he goes down easy and sleeps through every night! We switched from a bottle to sippy cup for his night milk I think at about 12 months and then switched from having it last thing to brushing teeth after around 14 months. Consistency is key and they really will get used to something new after a couple days if you keep at it!

@Allie thank you for this Allie, I think i’ll work on reducing the amount first then transition to a sippy cup but keep his bedtime milk for as long as he wants it as I find he’s bedwetting a lot so perhaps it’s due to the of amount liquids he’s having at night.

My little girl has about 8/9 ounce of blue milk before bed and in the morning I haven’t cut it and she’s 23 months xx
