Unable to see a doctor

Girls I’m not able to get a midwife appointment every nhs clinic I call, they are saying in 9-12 weeks…. This seems really late I’m worried that I still haven’t seen anyone I’m 5 weeks today, does anyone know any good private midwifes I can go to?

It’s normal not to be seen until then. There is no need to be seen before then but you can book private scans if you want to

That’s normal , xx

That’s totally normal. I didn’t have a booking visit until around 8/9 weeks and a scan at 12 weeks. Only thing you can do is go for a private scan for reassurance x

@Lauryn uh thank you that gives me a bit of a peace of mind, I wanted to talk to someone about taking/not taking vitamins, and everyone always says see someone as soon as you know, but I’m probably just paranoid

You could try a basic women’s healthcare while waiting to see a midwife if you’re concerned about something. Most doctors don’t even want to see you before like 8 weeks. I was able to get in at 6 weeks but my sister was pregnant at the same time but in a different state and she wasn’t able to get in until she was 12 weeks. Nothing fancy really happens anyway, at my first scan the baby was like a nub and you could barely see it. I was able to ask questions but really they didn’t have anything necessary to say to me, aside from not taking *most* medications or whatever. If you have any major concerns or questions I’m sure you could call just about any place and speak to an on call doctor as well

That’s very normal. Even private midwives won’t likely see you until then. Private midwives are few and far between now as the government have made it so difficult to get insurance. If you are wanting to be seen earlier I’d looking into local private scan clinics. There are LOADS around but until 10 weeks there’s nothing that actually NEEDS to be done. If you have concerns it would be your GP that would deal with this under around 16 weeks and even if a midwife saw you they wouldn’t be able to do anything at this early gestation In terms of vitamins folic acid and vitamin D are advised from preconception so start taking those ASAP. If you have a raised BMI speak with the GP as you will need a higher dose

Normal not to have one until around 9 weeks, nothing that the midwife will tell you at the moment other than take folic acid! Hope everything goes well

This is standard in the UK. You don’t see anybody prior unless there’s an issue.

If you are worried about things, talk to anyone of us. We’ve all been there in your shoes, unfortunately you won’t be seen until your booking appointment, if you are in the uk, use the self referral. Take your folic acids vitamins for the first 12 weeks x

What questions do you have about vitamins?

Definitely get started on some pregnancy vitamins and have a google of the foods to avoid and then just try to relax ❤️

That wait time is normal for the uk, I had a midwife come out for a ‘booking in appointment’ about 8 weeks in.. I would start taking something like pregnacare multivitamins in the mean time x

Idk why they make us wait so long I was like anxiety the whole time waiting to be seen but be patient it will Happen and if your worried about anything go to the doc

It’s completely normal, but equally if you have a couple of questions, you can still ring your local midwife’s office and ask them over the phone. With regard to vitamins it’s normal to take a pregnancy multi vitamin and folic acid and avoid vitamin A. There information on the NHS website, and there is also a timeline of appointments you can expect if you are in the UK.

It’s normal but I did hate having to wait. If you have questions, you can ring local midwife helpline.
