Aching joints

Hi everyone, I'm breastfeeding and my joints are aching (thumbs, first finger, hands, wrists, knees, elbows). I've read that this happens as a result of the hormone relaxin during pregnancy and breastfeeding and looking after a little one! I was just wondering if you have experienced the same and what you've found, if anything, that helps it?

Ah that’s why I’m so achy! I thought I was just so tired 😴

I'm not bf but I'm also aching all over! I keep telling myself it's just a phase... If you find anything that helps, I'd love to know!

I had the sorest hips when I was pregnant they would ache with pain when I slept. Now I’m breastfeeding I find it’s my knees so sore and stiff! I’m just hoping it will go when I stop feeding ! Not sure if there’s much we can do

Same here have been in agony since giving birth in hips knees and also stiff ankles. I have started taking my pregnancy vitamins again and helping a little as has really making sure am hydrated, but still feel about 70yrs old

I'm not breastfeeding but have such bad aching joints! My elbows and knees are the worst! Never head it with my first.

Ooooh that could be what's wrong with my wrists! My right one is particularly bad and I find it so hard sometimes to even pick up my baby or get him out the next to me to feed him at night

I am exactly the same with this and still slightly but symptoms no where near as bad now my baby is 4 months. My fingers knees and hips were awful. I still get stiffness but nowhere near as bad. I thought it was rheumatoid arthritis but I had bloods done and turned out to be post partum. It really is awful especially when you want to do baby groups and your constantly on the floor, I’m so embarrassed when trying to get up off the floor as I really struggle and have to do it in stages. Before pregnancy I’m was really fit and well. Hopefully it will eventually go 🙁

@Lottie that sounds more like mother's thumb!

Interesting, thanks for sharing everyone. And I've never heard of mother's thumb before- I also feel that pain picking my baby up, and very much feel the same about baby groups- why always on the floor?! I wish this stuff was more generally talked about 🙄

I did a little googling and found these exercises that look helpful: https://www.healthline.com/health/de-quervains-tenosynovitis-exercises#opposition-stretch
