Cows milk

I AM SO CONFUSED! Please tell me what you are doing with cows milk if your baby has turned one? So my little one was on two formula feeds a day, I swapped these to cows milk when she turned one. She didn’t like a cup even though she loves her water from a cup, so I got a slightly more grown up bottle (lol) still a bottle though. But how long do I keep giving her cows milk like this? Am I doing it right, a bottle in the morning and before bed? How much do you give? I’ve been doing 8oz x 2. She sometimes drinks it all and sometimes half, sometimes hardly any etc!! She doesn’t need the milk to fall asleep, I usually give it her downstairs then take her up to bed and get her dressed so it’s not like she falls asleep on the bottle. Do I gradually reduce it? I feel like she would eat more in the day if she wasn’t having so much milk? Sorry so many thoughts!! Please let me know what you do I’d love to know!!

Chat GPT is really good for things like this lol as it scans the internet. They don’t need milk, it’s the nutrients they’re after, and yes if they’re filling up on milk it will reduce their want for solids. The answer was too big to post, but if you post this in Chat GPT you should get some info on cows milk frequency and amount, transitioning from bottles, impact on appetite, signs of readiness to reduce milk and what to do next

Some people do a gradual swap by replacing an ounce of formula at a time until the bottle is just cows milk x

I’ve been gradually swapping it so I’ve put cows milk in his morning cereal for a couple weeks. And was doing half and half of formula and milk. We’ve just finished his formula today (he turned 1 yesterday), so will now just give him cows milk with added vitamins. He’s still got his bottle tho so I need to buy him a milk sippy cup. If anyone has any recommendations, will be very much appreciated 😊❤️

We just continued to use the other bottles which the health visitor said isn't an issue. She's gradually dropped to one bottle before bed now at 18 months but just play it by ear. They don't have to have the milk so just follow their lead xxx

I am still using bottles for now at almost 13 months, plan to make the swap after Christmas. We do 2 bottles daily, morning and evening, plus a mid-morning smoothie using milk as she seems to take it better that way. The evening one she could probably do without because she eats good dinner, it's generally around 120 mL. The morning one is the tough one for us. She wakes up and screams for it. I've been reducing the amount, but she is not happy about it; I'm thinking I might have to swap out the smoothie and give it to her in the morning before her "big" breakfast. She seems super hungry in the morning so she may need a shot of fruit and protein to level out blood sugar. Also, another thing I noticed was that her diapers in the morning are on the dry side, so I've been giving lots of water when she first wakes. You could try giving water in the morning in place of milk - toddlers have a lot less caloric needs than babies, as their growth slows down a little, you may find she doesn't need quite so much.

This post made me feel so much better about my low milk supply as we’re still breastfeeding constantly (mostly comfort but main nutrients from solids!). Glad to know most are only drinking around 16oz these days. I’m probably making that much

Following!! I'm in the same boat and having the same thoughts with my 13 month old twins.

@Cheyenne if you're breastfeeding it's also very different from formula. The milk adjusts to fit a toddler's needs, so while you make less, it is more suited to your baby. They generally take less breast milk than formula. 😊

We do munchkin 360 cup of cold cows milk alongside breakfast as a drink & then 6oz of warm cows milk in a regular tommee tipper baby bottles before bed & will continue this for the foreseable future. My oldest had a baby bottle of warm milk before bed until she was gone 3 years old🤷🏼‍♀️ From 12 months they actually don’t need to have milk anymore, just as long as they are having 2 portions of cheese/yoghurt a day

We have had a hard time getting off a bottle fully transitioning to sippy cup. I work with mine with a sippy cup at meal times . At night times I cave and give bottle at night. It can be really hard sometimes to get them off the bottle. Mine is all the way on cows milk though. I just warm ours up a little bit

@Melissa thank you dear!
