Child name change?

Hi all! I’m in a bit of a predicament. My son was born and took his father’s last name due to his request. I tried to speak about double barreling which wasn’t an option. We have since split up and he has tried to stop me changing our sons last name (despite the fact I have made no attempt to) I’m unsure if I actually want to double barrel or not or what would be in the best interest for our son. He’s too young to understand any of this and would rather change it while he’s young so he knows no different. However am worried about future children’s names, potentially marrying and how my son would feel in the future. Has anyone been through similar or have any advice? Thanks!

Personally, I’d change it to your maiden name and leave up to child to change in future? If you’re broken up then I don’t see any reason why you should accommodate your ex. You will run into problems when traveling abroad by the way if you don’t share a surname with your child just FYI…

This is another reason I would want to change! There’s so many reason why I would want to change and also why I think I shouldn’t but it’s just a lot. The separation is a hard enough transition and I just want to do what’s best for the little one. But thank you for your advice!

Are you in the UK because I am pretty sure you cannot change your child's name without both parents consent

@Annabel I am in the UK he applied for a prohibited steps order which he was denied
