BLW and eating out

Has anyone had any bad experiences when eating out at a restaurant/pub with their little one? At the weekend I was scrutinised when ordering my 10 month old something off the children's menu. I had ordered my 3yr old some pasta and then I ordered a burger for my 10 month old. I was going to deconstruct it and chop the burger up into bitesize pieces (this is something she's eaten at home). I was asked why I was ordering two childrens meals, to which I answered, "I have two children"... The waitress seemed confused that I was ordering my baby a meal and said "does she not eat baby food". I replied, "no, she eats like us"... The waitress said she'd need to speak to her manager first before putting the order through! She eventually came back and told us her manager said it was "fine". I was about ready to leave at this point and tell them to stuff it but my husband calmed me down 😤😂 I'm sorry but eating out with your children is stressful enough as it is without people questioning why I'm ordering something. Why would it have mattered if I was ordering two childrens meals anyway, I'm paying for the food? Do people without babies just assume they eat slop until they're a toddler or something? 😂 Has anyone else experienced something like this?

We eat out a lot with our daughter, and never experienced this. I’m sorry they made you feel uncomfortable! I do think some people expect to see babies eating puréed food / pouches. However, a lot of people do BLW nowadays. We always order our 11 month old children’s menu food, cut accordingly. She rarely eats it all (we then pick at it 😂) but she has a fair bit! Every restaurant has been fine with it. You’re paying for the food so am not sure why it matters to them!

I’ve had the opposite, asked for their side of steamed type greens they had on their menu, and twice had to send it back asking them to ‘cook it properly soft’. Waitress looking confused. Like duh is it that much effort to ‘soften’ some green vegetables I’m paying over a fiver for as it is in a friggin microwave? 🤷‍♀️ Like even if it was just for us (adults) who don’t want al dente veggies. It was like it was so confusing we may want them cooked ‘soft’ in a microwave if they needed to (not that hard) pointing at the baby. ‘Please can you just soften them as again they’re not even soft for an adult to eat’ 😵‍💫 I take my own food ‘just in case’ if we’re restaurant eating now. Not to mention this particular restaurants ‘high chairs’ had no god damn straps in them that worked or middle bar and she slipped later through the gap 🤦‍♀️ before I caught her in time when we put her in there to realise completely useless broken strap

This is awful!!!

How ridiculous! Who are they to dictate how you feed your child? If you’re paying you get what you want and if they’re worried about choking that’s not even an issue as even adults choke on food!

Omg I can’t believe you have experienced this! I think I would have left, if you’re paying what does it matter!!!! We ask for the food however my LG wants it and never had any issues, really sorry you had to go through this!x

I don’t get why they’d even question it in the first place I’d say because the burger is a side meal for me 😂

I'd have made a complaint so that the waitress doesn't ever make someone feel uncomfortable again!

It was more so the look of disbelief on her face. I think she thought my daughter was going to pick up the burger and bite into it whole 😂 but I still don't get why the manager needed to be involved...it just felt wholly unnecessary and made me feel uncomfortable! She actually did really well with the burger, apart from the bun! Safe to say we won't be going there again! 🙄
