Advice on early scan

Hi ladies! I had an ectopic pregnancy back in July, I didn’t need methotrexate nor surgery as my body passed the pregnancy on its own… Well now I am pregnant again 🥳 (I tested positive last Monday and I am now 4+5 weeks). Because of my previous ectopic I am allowed to have an early scan at 6 weeks to make sure everything is alright, however I am leaving for France for 2 weeks the day I am 6 weeks pregnant (it falls on the 20th of December so exactly during the holiday break…). I spoke to a doctor and she said while I can come in for a scan on the 19th (which would put me in at 5+6 weeks) it could still be inconclusive and too early to tell where the baby is or hear the heartbeat…. And they would then ask for me to come back to do bloods every 48 hours until they can tell… also it would put me on a « no travel » and there for if abyhthing did happen while I’m in France insurance wouldn’t cover any thing…) Any whooo long story short… my question is: Should I go ahead with a scan on Thursday that could be too early to tell, or should I wait till I come back when I’m 8 weeks and will definitely be far enough along to tell… FYI, I haven’t had any spotting or particular worrisome signs as I did with my previous pregnancy, also I am French so technically I could potentially get checked in France if I fear something is off or I could come back urgently…

I went for an early scan and I was 5+4 and the sac was there but that was all they could see at the time. They should be able to see the sac at that gestation. I felt reassured because I knew baby was in the right place then I went back after a 2 weeks to check for progress which was all OK. I think you should go tbh as at least your mind will be at rest

Sorry to hear about your previous ectopic pregnancy, but congrats on falling pregnant again. I also had one back in Feb but now I’m 33 weeks with my baby boy 🩵 I had emergency surgery to remove my left tube as there was a heart beat and I was close to rupturing. With this pregnancy, my scan was around 5 weeks which I thought was too early. I almost called them to move it back but went with it. For me, they were able to tell that baby was implanted in the uterus this time although was too early for a heart beat. I went back 2 weeks later to check the heart beat. I would say, do it as they may be able to tell where baby has implanted putting your mind at ease and if they catch any issues early, you can try avoid the surgery route. Good luck mumma.

By the way, I was 6/7 weeks with the first one where I needed the surgery. So you really shouldnt wait until 8 weeks incase anything is wrong.

Thanks all!!! I think I will go ahead with the scan then! I was actually leaning more towards not going to and delaying it but I think you’re right… they will at least be able to tell where it’s implanted (and they did with my last since my last scan with my ectopic as at 5 + 3 weeks…

Yay! Good luck hun 💓💓💓

I had a can at 5+6 could only see the sac x
