Potty Training a boy

When are we supposed to start thinking about potty training? Im in no rush and didn’t think about that until this week when my toddler started saying POOOO and walking to his room for a diaper change!! I ordered a little toilet but Im not sure the best way to introduce it. He poops religiously after breakfast and after dinner but I have no idea about the poos during the day and pee. Send help please 😩

I'm considering starting in February. Little girl started giving us diapers when she poops about a month ago. She just started saying she's pooping and even pointing at her diaper and saying stinky. I think the next step is letting her go on the potty- but I'm due soon and don't know how that will shake things up, so we will enforce her recognition and see where she's at come February if she doesn't regress with a new born.

So my understanding is for boys you bowel training them first, so for peeing you actually want them to sit backwards on a toilet and point the little penis down. Is what I've read

My boy wasn't ready this early, he was ready closer to 20mo. We got a potty that sits on the toilet itself that has steps attached. He steps up and finishes his business. He's 3 now and been completely independent (minus #2 clean up) no pull ups at night as he's been dry. I forgot that was another sign, having a dry diaper through the night. I will also wait for that with my little girl too.

Girls tend to reach milestones before boys on average so don't be discouraged if it takes some time🧡. You can start with a book like sesame street p is for potty book and then place him on the potty and have him watch a show while he stays seated on the potty till he goes and then reward him

My baby boy is almost two, he has started running around shouting poo poo poo and goes into he toilet shuts the door and squats down, this could be him telling me he would like to try toilet

@Elizabeth that is really good know! Im going to start reading about it tonight

@Megan I did notice that his diaper is waking up with less pee and then he pees a bunch after the first change!

@Gavinga For sure! I don’t have any expectations right now. Potty training is not even something that I was thinking to start until he was at least 3. For some reason I totally forgot about that 😂 I just ordered this book! Very excited!!

@Steamtrane Family i hope it’s that easy for me when it’s my sons time😭

@cynthia my baby boy isn't training yet but it will most likely be next year sometime in garden in summer 😅
