I’m in a similar boat but I was the bread winner for our family and it’s been really hard. I applied for benefits and got them but there was nothing in my process where I needed to state anything about my partner. We’re not officially married though so maybe that’s why. If that’s the same for you I’d make an appointment with your state’s unemployment office and talk to someone. Maybe you misfiled something on accident and got denied but shouldn’t have and someone can help you. My birthday was last month and I was laid off August 1st so I totally feel you and can relate. I don’t have a ton of advice unfortunately because this is my first time in this situation. I had something kind of similar back in 2020 where I received benefits but that was a temporary furlough so filing for me was different and I only just was able to submit my first payment request today. It took a while to get my identity verified and I only first filed November 24th. I really expected to find work sooner.
@Kelly, where I live, we are considered defacto. Basically married without legal papers. We have to not only state our partner and their living and financial situation, but they have to confirm our relation to submit a payment claim. When I say I "just found out," I literally mean I had the phone interview today and was told I'm not eligible on my birthday. Im completely miserable right now.
@Sarah, that's like pulling teeth. It's one of the reasons I feel I can't rely on him financially.
What sort of jobs are you looking/applying for? If your looking for retail, you can walk into stores, ask to speak to the manager and give them your CV. Apply to Pret A Manger: they pay weekly on Thursdays so you won’t have to wait long to get paid. Their application form is easy to fill out on their website. If you live in London, you can go into their head office located in Victoria. Card Factory are always looking for employees: I’d recommend applying on their website or go into their stores, speak to the manager and hand them your CV. Go out and hand out as many CV’s as you can. If you do that 1-2 days each week for a month, I’m sure one of them will come back to you. I know it’s old school and were told to apply online for everything these days, but just 2 years ago, someone I know was handing out CV’s in person, In various stores and they got interviews! I know it feels like all hope is lost, but have faith, don’t give up, take my advice and give it a try 🙌🏽🦋.
Depends on the job you need. Most jobs don’t even help cover the cost of childcare now and I’m like you can’t get help because of my husband’s earnings so you have to see what and how much you need to earn to even make it worth while 😖 I’m dreading my maternity ending, my husband earns enough to cover but my god he sometimes is stupid with money it’s frustrating. So my maternity pay has been needed which thankfully I am still getting. I’ve always been a 50/50 till having a baby so it’s hard relying on someone else. I actually think I’ve found that more stressful 😅. Honestly sometimes I’ve thought we would be better to be separate just so we can get some sort of help.
If he can’t pull his weight financially he’s gonna have to move out then you can make a claim and mange your own money. He will also have to pay child support
message me directly, i had an issue like this 💔
Have you tried supermarkets? They’re usually looking for more staff at this time of year x
@Monique, childcare, but I also feel sick to my stomach about working in childcare at the moment.
The benefit system is broken, I'm sorry that you're in this situation. All I could suggest is speaking to citizens advice.
