Weight

Bit of advice needed please! My little one was born 4lb - they think she was 6 weeks early but I had a cryptic pregnancy so we will never know! We were in hospital for a week only luckily and she was weighed daily, then weighed weekly by our SCBU outreach team for the first month out of hospital. Then monthly and so on by my health visitor team. Everytime I go they are not happy with her weight. She was on the 0.4th percentile at birth, at 1 month she was on the 25th percentile for her corrected age. Never goes up, never down. This week she was weighed -17lb 1 and 9.5 months (8m corrected) and the health visitor has told me I’m not feeding her enough, she’s not getting enough calories and that I need to start giving her fatty foods and “putting cheese / cream in all her foods”. Has anyone else struggled???? She’s a small baby but not tiny! What makes it worse is she’s been crawling for months, has hit every milestone so far but they don’t care at all, just tell me I’m not feeding her enough! I would never force feed her but they keep telling me she needs more, but she won’t have it!

My LG was weighed today at exactly 9 months at 15lb 12oz and was I think about 14lb 12oz at 8 months, they were more than positive with her weight and said I can breathe a bit and not get her weighed so often (which I was planning if she'd remained on centile this time, we've done monthly for 6-9 after a period of weekly and twice weekly because she dropped below 0.4th bc of a tongue tie). She's following her 9th centile line, which she was born at, so the health visitors we've seen are happy. If she's following her curve and there doesn't seem to be any feeding issues or anything then I'm not sure why they're not happy with it.

No me neither! What made it worse was the HV asked me if I was okay and I let it all out that weighing her makes me feel so shit because of the reactions, she said they shouldn’t be worried if she follows her centile line, then went on to tell me I was not feeding her enough! 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

My little girl was born at 36. Weeks at 4lbs6oz they didn’t even know I’d had a section or that she was premature.. she’s 8 months (7months corrected) still in 3-6 months going into 6-9 months, eats and drinks loads but they never even bothered to check her weight against anything honestly we’ve had awful care

Honestly I would take what health visitors say with a pinch of salt. I have 3 children who are all 3 and under. Both my younger two was born at 36 weeks, my girl weighed 4lbs 2oz my boy 5lbs 10oz. My daughter turns 2 next month and is still in 9/12 month clothing, my son is 9 months and is in 9/12 and 12/18 months clothing, both have cmpa, my son weighs more than my daughter. My daughter can eat me at of house and home and just not put weight on. As long as baby is happy, healthy and fed she's your daughter ignore the comments x

My LO was 6 weeks early and has always been small, she's on the second centile and very slowly gains weight....I find weigh ins really anxiety provoking and have had some unhelpful comments from the HV...we have had a few feeding challenges and she hasn't taken to weaning as quickly as I had hoped :( she's still in 3-6 clothes and is nearly 10 months actual. It's hard but she's also hitting all her milestones so I just keep saying she is tiny but mighty! Xx

Honestly I wouldn't worry, I said today to them there's a level of ptsd with her weight. I knew I could wait another month or until her 9-12month review but I just wanted to check. I'll get to next month and something inside will be worried about her weight again and want to check. Incase you wanted to try upping the healthy fats etc, avocado is a good one, and sprinkling hemp seeds on dishes. My LG loves a crumpet so I put a bit of peanut butter on that too (she doesn't get crumpets often as they're surprisingly high in salt) and fatty fish like salmon is good too. I had one HV at a weigh in at 7 months tell me we should be on 3 meals, I just smiled and rolled my eyes as I walked away. Like you, I'm not going to force feed her! We do BLW so she eats what she wants to eat and if she doesn't eat it her body obviously doesn't need it. The crawling will slim her down too, in the month LG started crawling & pulling to stand (between 7 and 8) she gained next to nothing, moving apparently burns calories 🤷🏼‍♀️

We are the EXACT same! My little girl was 4lbs born with all the extra help- she is only 15lbs now (she was 9 months on the 6th) and no one has any worries as she is happy healthy and moving and they said she is staying consistent with her own percentile line as she should be. In fact they are happy as she has gone from not being on a centile line at birth to being on the second. Im not sure why the health visitor would tell you this, sounds shit. Maybe request a new health visitor? If not, and you have no concerns, just ignore her. Plus mine eats like a toddler and can’t crawl/walk… yet xx

Small baby here, arrived 5 weeks early at 5lb2. Our initial conversations with health visitors were all about how small she is but she’s tracked 25th on corrected charts. We haven’t had a check in a while now but she’s the same as yours, active, meeting milestones but still petite. This is my second baby so I’m a bit more chilled but if the baby is happy, then you’re doing just fine. A baby will shout at you if they are hungry, so trust your instincts. It sounds like she’s doing just fine.

My LG will be 9 months on 23rd and is 15lbs 6oz. The health visitors focus on weight way too much. My health visitor keeps telling me that my daughter needs to be eating more regularly

Thanks guys! I think because she’s my first, I really take it to heart! Xx
