If you run out of formula, you should contact your child's healthcare provider right away. They can provide guidance on what to do and what is safe for your baby. In the meantime, you can try these options: Pasteurized whole cow's milk For babies 6 months to 12 months old, you can give them pasteurized, unflavored, whole cow's milk for a short time (no more than a week). You should also include iron-rich foods in your baby's diet to help prevent anemia. Fortified plant-based milks Fortified soy or pea protein milks can be given to babies for a couple of days. However, most plant-based milks are low in protein and minerals, so you should switch back to formula as soon as possible. Pediatric oral rehydration solutions These can be given for a couple to a few days at a time under medical supervision. Solid foods You can offer nutritionally dense solids such as meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, thinned out peanut/nut butters, whole fat yogurt, avocado, mashed beans and lentils, and oatmeal.
