Idk about the Uk but in the US if a child vomits, has diarrhea (usually the standard where I’ve worked is 3+ plus diarrhea diapers in a day), or has a fever they have to be picked up and can’t return until symptoms haven’t been present for a minimum of 24hrs without medicine
Yes, 48hrs is standard unless it's clear there's another reason for the vomiting or diarrhoea. My first daughter had loose bowels quite often as a baby/toddler, but it was diet related (an intolerance to gluten we discovered later). She kept getting sent home by her nursery. We got our GP to write us a note to give to them explaining that she wasn't ill so she didn't keep getting sent home.
My childminder has a policy of 3 episodes of diarrhea/vomiting in a day to be picked up and not to return till 48hrs have passed since the last episode.
I say fair play and good practice becuase what if it was a sickness bug and the childminder picked it up then passed it to other children.
Thank you ladies.. Just checking as I thought it was strange but good to know others have experienced similar 😬
Yes it’s standard practice to have an exclusion period for 48 hours after vomiting/diarrhoea - for the child that’s been sick. Even if you know your child isn’t ill, the childcare setting can’t be sure so it’s a blanket policy. I’ve never heard of the childminder then also being unavailable for other children for 48 hours, that’s ridiculous. Because what would happen in a nursery, would it close for 48 hours after one child was sick one time?!
